Apple Remote Play/Pause button

Since installing Snow Leopard I've noticed that the Play/Pause button opens iTunes automatically, this is annoying, I don't use iTunes I prefer to use an app called Ecoute, it's less of a memory-hog, but tis app is pointless if I open itUnes very time I want to pause a song!! Does anybody know how to disable this feature?

P.s: I've found that the Play/Pause button on my keyboard (F8) does the same thing grr! this is annoying!

Oh brother, is that NOT a good idea if you are running 10.6 on an iMac intel dual from the early 2007 line. I installed that horrible little application, and yes my Apple Remote worked for a while, then when I quit out of front row I could not use my finer - my keyboard wouldn't work, and eventually I managed to uninstall the pref pane by using a laptop and deleting it that way because none of my input devices worked on the mac. If I could click on something with the mouse, double clicking on the dock showed the app in the finder instead of opening it, clicking on things in the top of the screen would only work with left mouse - it was horrible. The temp sensor on my fans showed a 20 degree C increase in temp.
