You Don't Have Permission to View This Calendar

I upgraded from Leopard Server 10.5.8 to 10.6

My site has individual blogs and a group wiki.

For some reason, I can't access my individual or group calendars.

It results in an error message saying I don't have permission to view the calendar.

I did not see an obvious way to recreate the calendar for myself or my group, or to fix the permissions.

Has anyone else seen this problem?

Thanks in advance.

This message was for Joe Kinney.... I thought it would post as a comment to his error. Sorry all.

I think the /Search it is referring to may be the same problem I was having. /Search is the directory node it is trying to find users and groups in. Mine was not working correctly so I had to specifically set it. Anyway, I have been smacking my head against the desk for about a week and this solved it for me.

Cheers,

Chris

@ Chris Silvertooth

Thanks for this.

*Please note*

If your iCal server is the localhost (ie: on the same box itself),
the edit to

/etc/caldavd/caldavd.plist

will most likely (as in my case) need to be:

<string>/LDAPv3/127.0.0.1</string>

stop iCal and wait about 15 seconds, and then start it again.

*Also note* if you're using ssl, then in Server Admin under Web settings > Sites
choose your ssl cert and enable ssl (which will change the port to 443),
important , even if you're not serving any web pages (ie no site(s) define),
just leave the default "IP" as * , and enable SSL.
Then point your browser to:

https://server.yourcompany.com/ical/

where of course "server.yourcompany.com" is your server's FQDN

I am having some of the same issues noted in this topic. I get the “You Don't Have Permission to View This Calendar” message. However I only see this message via the iCal web interface. Using the iCal app does not give me this error. I am running 10.6 clean install no prior OS, new hardware. I have iCal server setup to authenticate with OpenLDAP. (not Apples Open Directory). I do have one local user created that I use to administer the machine. Authentication with OpenLDAP seems to work rather well with many tweaks and no documentation to help guide us. I can use the local user to login to the web iCal interface, which works. I do not receive the “You Don't Have Permission to View This Calendar” message. Like I said using any user that lives in OpenLDAP gives me the “You Don't Have Permission to View This Calendar” message. Another issue I am seeing that does not seem to affect the local user. When I create a calendar event using an OpenLDAP account and invite outside users the message never gets delivered to the attendee. When using the local user the attendee is notified. I am mystified. I have followed this thread trying to apply all the tips in this thread with no luck in getting it to work. If anyone is using iCal server with OpenLDAP and has any advise how to get the full functionality to work please post it I would be much appreciative.

Just to say thanks to davidh and Chris Silvertooth for fixing my web calendar problem ... 127.0.0.1 edit worked a treat.

Still having a problem with subscribing in iCal now with not having any principles (how does the computer know how I vote?) but I suspect I had two problems interacting so I'll go back to the other discussions which weren't solving that problem for me in the hopes of more success now.

I've only wasted 3 evenings on this so far, so we're doing better than other OSs I've worked with before...

Again, many thanks,

Stooriefit

I have hit the same problem on a brand new out of the box X-Serve. I have followed the advice above and still have the "Permissions" message. In addition, if I change the line in the caldavd.plist file from "/Search" to "LDAPv3/example.com" with example.com my FQDN, I then get a message saying the ical server is not running.

After reading through this thread, and trying all of it, and nothing was working... :-| I considered the "Also note..." portion of the davidh post.

This is the crux of the matter. All my services are set up using SSL. However, when you visit the wiki site using HTTP, there is a disconnect with iCal only... that is all other services seem to work. Thus by configuring SSL for the entire site, the problem goes away with no edits to any files. :-D Happy Day!

Hope this helps.
