Unblocking calls with *82 and Text Messaging Conflict

My AT&T number is "hard blocked", so for many contacts I have stored a *82 in front of their numbers so when I call them, they will see my name and number on their caller ID. (Most people I know also have "hard blocked" phone numbers.)

However, I have discovered that the "*82" in front of a number always prevents a text message from working. AT&T never reports back that the text failed, but the recipient never receives it.

Frankly, I'm disappointed that AT&T can't figure out how to cope with the *82 in a text message.

Any solutions to this that does not involve un-hard blocking my phone number?

If this is so important to you, I would advise the following work-around: simply add a second phone number to each of your contacts. The main number that you use for calling them has the *82. Then simply add a second number to the contact (phone number without *82). It might be somewhat inconveinent, but this is the only work around that I can imagine at the moment.
