Can't get past serial entry screen while installing FCP 5

Hi,

I am trying to install final cut pro 5 on my iMac G5 running Tiger 10.4.2.

I can get so far as the screen which asks for the serial number and upon entering this number I cannot get any further. (The continue button will not highlight.)

I have tried all different combinations of uppercase and lowercase text and leaving out the organization field to no avail.

I have spoke to apple and they have confirmed that i have the correct serial before trying to put me through to someone else then leaving me on hold for 30 mins.

Please could someone help me out on this issue.

theres not really anything we can do Leon,

if you really have a valid issue just wait the 30 minutes on hold and get it dealt with

The situation you describe is exactly what you would see if you were upgrading an Academic or Not-For-Resale version of the software.

If that is the case, you have two options:

Try to exchange the software for the full new license version ~$1299 ( less the cost of the upgrade package in exchange)
Try to purchase a FCP3 license (they are still out there unsold) and use that as the underlying upgradable license.

Thanks for that.

I work an IT technician for a College and rarly use Mac's!

The Mac i'm installing the software on has got FCP 3 installed and i have got the serial for that.

I will try out your solution.

Leon,

Just so I'm clear what you are dealing with...is the version you are trying to install the FCP5 retail upgrade?

If the FCP3 version you have is also an Academic license, you will be in the same position as all FCP Academic licences are not upgradable.

If you want to stay with academic versions, see if you can return the retail upgrade package and purchase the v5 Studio Academic package. It will cost you more and it also is not upgradable.

There may be some value to have the institution purchase retail licences if you have made a committment to stay current with the software. It will cost more initially, but will save you in the upgrades. After two or more upgrade cycles, you come out ahead.
