After Snow Leopard upgrade Safari won't load https://login.facebook.com/

After upgrading without any problems to Snow Leopard, Safari (Version 4.0.3 (6531.9)) won't connect to the standard Facebook login page: https://login.facebook.com/login.php

I get the error:
Safari can’t open the page.
Safari can’t open the page “ https://login.facebook.com/login.php?login_attempt=1” because Safari can’t establish a secure connection to the server “login.facebook.com”.

It works fine in Firefox (and worked fine in Safari 10.5.8), so it's definitely a Safari/Snow Leopard issue.

I reset Safari, killed all of the Safari keychain items, and still nothing. I've seen similar complaints out there as well, but no solutions have worked for me. Anyone else?

I think this is a DNS issue. Snow Leopard apparently handles DNS a little different. I checked 2 computers where I had this problem and I entered manual DNS information from my ISP. I went into System Preferences > Network > Ethernet >Deleted DNS information that was black writing > Advanced and deleted any black writing in there.

If the DNS information is grayed out, then it is pulling automatically from your ISP. If it is black, then it will override anything else.

On the Airport section, I had to go directly into Advanced to delete any manual input information.

So far, I've not been able to duplicate the problem. Prior to this, I did go into my keychains section, but that only worked momentarily and I was able to duplicate the problem in Firefox which indicates it's NOT a keychain issue.

I'm calling this fixed and if the problem comes back, I'll post it here.

If Ethernet Connection:

1. System Preferences
2. Network
3. Built in Ethernet
4. Delete information in DNS Server & Search Domains
5. Click Advanced > DNS
6. Click on DNS Servers & Search Domains that are Black and click the Minus Button. Once everything is deleted, this information will reappear but in gray.

If Airport Connection:

1. System Preferences
2. Network
3. Airport
4. Click Advanced > DNS
5. Click on DNS Servers & Search Domains that are Black and click the Minus Button. Once everything is deleted, this information will reappear but in gray.

Ok, it did it again. I can't figure out what's happening. I tested it every way and this morning, it gave me an error whereas last night, not one on any computer.

I am now adding OpenDNS to my account. I went back to the previous settings and copied the grayed out DNS information and manually input it into the DNS area, then I added these two:

208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

Those are OpenDNS servers and hopefully that fixes the issue. If it happens again, I'll post.

Interestingly after almost a month of having SL installed this happened for us yesterday. It's the same in Firefox (my FB account) and Safari (my wife's FB). My FB worked whilst still logged in but when I tried logging out I haven't been able to log in again.

FB works fine on the same internet connection on a new MBP bought today and on the iPhone (both accounts) so it's certainly an issue with this iMac/SL.

I've tried Keychain First Aid, Resetting the Deault Keychain, removing the DNS servers, resetting Safari, removing (and later replacing) the user preferences and I'm out of ideas now. I've tried a few other https:// sites which seem to function normally.

I bought my macbook pro about a month before SL. Everything worked fine before I installed it. When I installed it I noticed I couldn't comment anyone on my facebook or pretty much do anything with out an error message. So I dealt with it and thought maybe it was just facebook ,but after I saw others with the problem I knew it was SL. I went back to 10.5 because it started to drive me crazy! It was just facebook and twitter, but I often use them so it annoyed me. I tried everything on here people said to do and nothing worked. So im back to 10.5 and it works fine. I cant re install SL until I know there are updates! Did anyone call APPLE? You think they could help cause I would like to use SL.

I had the same problem, but the solution was simple. Open Keychain Access. Select the Login keychain. Select "Safari Forms Autofill". Right click and delete this keychain. Logout the user out and then login again. You should now be able to login to Facebook without seeing the "https://login.facebook.com/login.php?login_attempt=1" error message.
