MacPro won't wake up from sleep

Upgraded Monday to SL, no problems except for Sleep.

Goes to Sleep and won't wake up. I have a MacPro connected to 3 monitors.

Monday, after lunch machine was unresponsive. Monitors where in sleep mode. Power indicator light on Mac was on. Had to hold in power button and power up. Checked power settings. Changed Computer sleep from 2 hours to Never. Changed Display sleep from 30 mins to 3 hours. Screen saver (iPhoto folder) set to 20 mins. No problems rest of Monday.

Came in Tuesday morning, same thing as above. No response to any keyboard or mouse activity. Optical mouse light was on. After boot, changed Computer sleep to Never. No other problems.

Came in today (Wednesday). Same problem. After boot, changed Display sleep from 3 hours to Never. Was away from desk for about an hour. Came back, screen saver was running, logged back in, all good. Turned around to work on another machine. Turned back to Mac, Screen gone, monitors sleeping. Power light not on. No response to any input. Hitting power button did nothing. Had to hold it in and then you could hear machine shut down even tho the light was not on.

This machine is only 3 months old and never had this problem till upgrade. This is a very big problem cause I run two virtuals in Fusion and they don't like being killed this way.

Any thought, ideas, comments, etc?

Thanks

Jason

Same problem here: new Mac Pro, sometimes it doesn't wake up from sleep.. This happens when it didn't go to sleep correctly in the first place: usually, the Mac Pro spins down the fans, the hard disks, and then goes "click". But when this bug show up, the final "click" part is missing. Then it will never wake up, and I need to keep the power button pressed for 5 seconds. It then "clicks" and I can power it up again.

I also have a problem of it not wanting to stay asleep (ie. waking up by itself after 10 seconds). But this also happens on several iMacs and isn't Mac Pro specific, but still a bug.

Well, took 3 days, but I was finally able to get a good backup....Hard to do when it keeps rebooting or locking up....UCK

Anyway, decided that I would try a "Clean" install instead of an upgrade. Worked great all day....Till now. Now it won't run longer than 2 minutes. Which is a pain cause after I upgraded, I worked a lot in iPhoto and would love to copy that over to a backup drive.

So, now I'm going to downgrade and hope that helps. I'm very close to going back to Windows....Never have had an issue with W7 and running it on 2 laptops, 2 VM's, and 1 desktop.

Also, power is not an issue. On the company battery system.

Wish me luck.

My Macbook has no problems with SL, but my iMac does. For days after I upgraded my iMac it wouldn't wake up after I put it to sleep. So I reinstalled SL and everything was find. Then 6.1 came out and it happened all over again. I switched back to just 6.0 and the problem still exists. No idea what is up, and it seems as if no one else does. If so many people have this problem, why the heck won't Apple send an update!?!

Boy, I thought I was the only one and I have a Mac 24" not a MacPro. It doesn't happen as often as some have reported here, so for that I guess I'm grateful. Moments ago I tried to wake it and nothing. I had to unplug the power cord from the back, plug it back in and then hit the power button. Never had this problem before SL and I just got my machine in August.

I upgraded my MacPro to Snow Leopard two days ago and since then I am having the same problem. Computer doesn't wake back up from sleep. The MacPro itself is less than 2 months old.

I haven't been able to wake it via USB, not even by plugging in an extra mouse to the front panel USB port. Pressing the power button will not wake it up either (pressing long will shut it off as it should).

When I look at the system.log, I am seeing NO messages between the sleep and the reboot.

Oct 8 11:21:48 MacPro loginwindow[175]: loginwindow SleepWakeCallback WILL sleep
Oct 8 19:52:08 localhost com.apple.launchd[1]: * launchd[1] has started up. *
Oct 8 19:52:13 localhost DirectoryService[15]: Improper shutdown detected

So the wakeup requests somehow did not make it to the log.

Having the same not-waking-from-sleep issue with my 24" iMac running SL, which I installed last week. Incidentally, I have experienced this problem on the same machine running Leopard from time to time, but not nearly with the same frequency I'm having now. Resetting the SMU and PRAM does NOT appear to help...issue resurfaces shortly afterwards. Going to install the 10.6.1. update now to see if it helps, though it doesn't refer to any issue of not waking from sleep.

So since its been a while, thought I would update on my situation.

I chose to fight this cause the closest Apple repair center was a little far to drive and when I called them they said it would take about a week just to look at it, so I just kept on trying things.

On both SL and Leopard, it would do the same thing. Just kept randomly rebooting or shutting down. Sleep was sleep of the dead, never came back. In the middle of trying things, my keyboard stopped working. I use a mac keyboard and Microsoft wireless mouse (I have all the buttons programmed). Hard killing and rebooting did nothing to get my keyboard back....

Finally crawled under the desk and swapped USB ports. Just swapped keyboard and external drive. Booted up....keyboard worked.

Even bigger....I've not had another problem with sleep or randomly shutting down since then. Everything has been great. Upgraded to SL latest version....no problems since....

So....I'm good to go now. Doubt thats the issue for everyone, but something that simple seemed to solve it for me....

Good luck everyone....

I just upgraded my MacPro 2007 to Snow Leopard yesterday, did the update to 10.6.2.. today put it to sleep, and tried to log back in.. screens (3 of them) turned on, I logged in with my user/pw and all it does is hang, the spinning color wheel. I hear lots of disk activity. Can't seem to log in. Had only 5 programs running for < 18 hours.
