Center mouse button clicks on spaces does not activate the space

Ok so let me try and explain this. I have a Mighty Mouse and just installed Snow Leopard last night. I have the trackball on my Mighty Mouse set so if it is clicked it will activate Spaces. Under Leopard I could click the trackball and then hover my mouse over the Space I wanted to bring forward and click again with the trackball to bring that Space to the front. Now under Snow Leopard, if I click with the trackball to try and bring the Space I am hovering over forward, it just brings forward the Space that was the current Space before I clicked the trackball. If I click with the left mouse button then Snow Leopard DOES bring forward the correct space.

Obviously this is quite a minor issue. My hand is just used to clicking the trackball again and if needs to it will get used to clicking the left mouse button instead. I am just wondering if anyone else has noticed this or if anyone else has the same functionality in Snow Leopard or had the same functionality under Leopard with the Mighty Mouse (or any multi-button mouse for that matter).

Thanks.

Im using a Logitec mx revolution. In Leopard it was wonderful. It has so many buttons and wheels that I could program it to activate spaces, expose, change applications, desktop, move through spaces. The only thing that works in snow leopard is the right and left click and the scroll wheel. Im not able to do any of the aforementioned actions. Ive resorted to setting up hot corners. I know I can hit the F 11-12 etc too. Also, I used to be able to use command tab to move between applications by simply tabbing and letting go, or moving my curser to the application I want. ( All opened applications show up in the middle of the screen) Now the applications show up. But I cant switch between applications. The one new feature that I have been using as a substitute is clicking on an application in the dock holding the click opens up all windows in the application and I can choose which one I want. Maybe I will get used to this. But it is a poor substitute for expose and spaces. I miss leopard! I have a cloned back up from just 3 days ago. I may go back.

I have had this same problem too (on my Mac Pro). I am using an older Microsoft IntelliMouse (I love that mouse!). I also tried the mighty mouse that came with the computer. I can't even get the other buttons to activate spaces on it! Spaces has also been very buggy since I upgraded to Snow Leopard. Sometimes "button 5" doesn't even activate spaces (which I have it set to do). It is really weird, 50% of the time it will activate spaces, and 50% it won't. Either way, pressing the spaces button again does not bring me to my new window!

I am extremely frustrated with this, and hope apple fixes this soon. Has anyone found a way to solve this issue? Please help!

I have set up a work around. I am using the hot corners to make spaced and expose' work.. You can do that by going to system preferences and selecting expose' and spaces. You can also move your curser to the spaces app in the doc Snow Leopard has changed the way expose' works. I think it is better once you get used to it. You click on the application you want and hold the click. All the pages of the application show up in an expose' screen, even the windows that have been minimized. You then move your mouse to the window you want and click on it. This makes more sense than having all the windows on every app open. Also, the windows aren't helter skelter but organized in a grid.
This is an improvement on the previous versions. However, I still want my logitec revolution mouse to work right. This is really the responsibility of Logitec. It is third party software.
I have never liked the mighty mouse for the same reasons you mentioned

I discovered this problem immediately after upgrading. It is a minor problem, but a problem none the less. Here are the reasons (and I hope Apple will fix this ASAP): having to use the left mouse button to select the space I want is a pain in the @$$! It causes me to accidentally move my windows around! The only way to prevent the undesired move of a window when clicking the left mouse button to select a space is to make sure you have completely stopped moving the mouse when you click. Being the fast user that I am I used to be able to click the middle mouse button while my hand was still in motion without worrying about affecting the open windows in any way.

Apple needs to fix this. It's the little things that make a difference to power users!!

I've got the same problem with a Kensington trackball. I'd be willing to blame their out-of-date drivers, but I can correctly use Expose with with 4th-button clicks, just not Spaces. While it's possible those two functions use different event listeners it seems unlikely -- they don't even have separate control panels.

For the time being I've installed Wrap from:
http://www.ksuther.com/warp/

Wrap lets you drag windows between spaces just by moving them to the edge of the screen, and switch spaces in a similar fashion (optionally requiring a click or modifier key).

I'd rather have my 4th-click activation working again, but Wrap is not a bad work-around.
