Wireless keyboard caps lock light not working

Hey, said it all in the title but here's the story...

Got home today and realized that the caps lock LED don't light up anymore. Has anyone else had similar problems? If so, how was your situation rectified?

The keyboard still works fine, don't think its a bad enough problem to have it replaced or be without it for ages. Could see if apple will allow a straight swap at the shop...

Wellllll . . . maybe yes and maybe no.

I just added a wireless keyboard and trackpad to my 3 y.o. Macbook Pro and it had the same problem as others here (no backlighting and no caps lock key). BTW, I did update the OS to 10.6.8 (what the keyboard needs to function fully).

I tried the various re-start procedures and the one that would not work was the one Jay listed above. I could not disconnect a BT device using the BT menu.

So, turned off the keyboard (which the computer acknowledged, but the BT menu would not), then restarted the computer and while it was shutting down, took out the batteries from the keyboard for good measure. On startup, the keyboard was still in the BT menu, but not connected. However I was able to remove it, and re-install it. This time everything on the keyboard worked.

I think there might be something to the theory that the BT keyboard needs to be the last BT device installed, but I'm just guessing.

Ok...Interesting. I have new iMac, new wireless keyboard and every night computer goes to sleep, sometimes during day, but next day, I wake it up and Caps Lock light is only thing not working on my keyboard. I like it to work so I know when I enter passwords I didn't hit it by mistake.

I got Apple to give me a new keyboard entirely. Brand new. I did all the re-pairing things. The new keyboard does the same thing. They told me to bring iMac in with keyboard and they will run a sys-check.

Also, in all my Spotlight searches, there was a suggestion to hold that key down longer. Maybe it will come on again. I will also put my Apple to sleep after 20 minutes, not ten, and see if that helps. This is a real Apple glitch if this is 2012 and people are still having problems.

Will try tomorrow to see if holding down key longer helps. Also, my screensaver isn't running, so I set up hotspots to run it. Let's see if that keeps the display more active and hence the caps lock key, although it shouldn't make a difference.

After living with this issue for a month, it's clearly all about when the keyboard loads during a session. If your capslock key stops lighting up after the Mac goes to sleep, just got to the bluetooth menu, disconnect and reconnect the keyboard. No need to take out the batteries, spin around on one foot and spit. Just disconnect and reconnect and you'll be fine until the next time your Mac powers down.

This should be a fixable thing in a future update. Sounds like it's costing Apple a lot of "faulty" keyboards getting returned!

Third wireless keyboard. Worked this morning but by midday was gone. Apple express Lane. I finally decided with a tech to reinstall Lion operating system. It installed the earlier version and I had no photos so I had to do a software update to 10.7.4. Will see what happens tonight. If not on in the a.m., I will try setting my computer to wake up once during the night. Another option is to shut my computer off every night. If the restart works every time this should work too. If I bring my iMac to the Apple Store the tech i spoke to today said they'll wipe the entire hard drive clean and I don't want that right now it's brand-new.

So will see what happens. Next up would be a USB keyboard. If that doesn't work then it's not a Bluetooth issue. So who knows.

Yes. Shouldn't have to do this every day, though. Lots of things work. What you suggest works onlynformone day at a time. Trying to fix this permanently. Will see if the OS reinstall does it and if not try the wake up during the night setting since it goes back to sleep just like it does during the day.

I will keep working with same AppleCare tech till we get somewhere.

I'm having the same problem. Being able to know I have caps locked is really important to my workflow. Having to power down or remove batteries or toggle the keyboard on and off is a huge annoyance - especially when paying a premium for mac computers. From looking through forum posts this problem has been going on for YEARS. I'm amazed that they've upgraded whole systems yet haven't taken the trouble to solve this basic problem...

Well...not really fixed. I have reinstalled my Lion OS. Next day light went out.

However, higher level tech support said...there is no reason for you to NOT shut down your computer every night. I was told leave it on and let it sleep and shut down once a week or so.

My computer is off from about 8 or 9 every night till midday or later next day since I use my "new" iPad as a computer anywhere in the house.

So, now, I shut down at night and my caps lock light works whole time my computer is on. The sleep mode, length of time it is in that mode?? Who knows. Maybe that has something to do with it. No problems since I shut down every night.

Problem isn't "fixed" and Apple knows it is a problem and really doesn't know HOW to fix it.

t

There are worse problems. I had a PC for so many years and just the antivirus, firewall and security problems were a nightmare.

Believe or not, am on my second wireless keyboard covered under the apple care program so cost was not the issue. LED light on the cap lock goes off every 2 days give or take. After reading through all your posts, here is what works for me

click open the bluetooth icon on the upper right side

DISCONNET the wireless keyboard

restart computer and press the right side button of the keyboard for the LED wireless light to go on so that it pairs on start up

cap light working again

at least until the next time

annoying at best to have to do this constantly but it beats making a reservation for the upteenth time at the genius bar for them to swap the keyboard only to have to do it again in 2 days.

Must be a glitz on the new Macs - never happened on my 2008 iMac24 for 3 years! New iMac27 is giving me the bluetooth problems. Hmmmmmm

I have one of these keyboards on a mac mini that is about 4 years old running 10.6.8
I am on my second keyboard now. The caps lock light gave up on the first and was always intermittent. The key was still functional.
With this new keyboard I have to hold the key down for about half a second before the light comes on. When typing quickly this is just too long. It's a real nuisance and it seems this has been an ongoing problem for several years.
It's high time Apple sorted out the issue.
