which backpack to buy?

Hi all,
Anyone able to give me some advice on laptop backpacks for a MBP 15"? I'm looking at the Brenthaven Trek BP, the Swissgear Synergy (or Maxxum), the STM Sports or the North Face Surge.
Anybody got any personal experiences with any of these?

G5 1.8, Mac OS X (10.4.11), 1.5 Gb RAM

So, anyone actually got anything useful to contribute?

I'm sure it was this anything-but-friendly-and-lighthearted sneer at a brody that offended people.

Fair enough, although those who did initially respond with personal experiences didn't seem bothered by it. It was only when I objected to what I took to be an unfounded and racist comment from 1grandidle1 (who as I've already pointed out responded sarcastically to a brody himself) that this 'blew up'.

The likelihood of finding many responders, or even one responder, who has practical day-to-day experience with both of the expensive backpacks you've narrowed your search down to is limited by the fact that both are expensive, both are probably very good, and both will probably last much longer in daily use than they've been on the market to date. Therefore, few if any users are likely to have worn one out and replaced it with the other, and few if any are likely to have bought both for comparison purposes and actually used both of them before returning one.

Fair point, I was just hoping that someone who had been in my position, but who lived somewhere where they were able to get their hands on these products in a store in order to examine them more than is possible on the web might respond with their thoughts. It was the hope that this might still happen that's led me to keep the thread open this long.

Everyone here is a volunteer, none of us knows your level of experience or awareness until you tell us about them, and we all expect you to recognize that and behave accordingly.

My apologies that I didn't explain my background better in my OP, I was just trying to keep the question short and to the point.
A Brody, if you happen to read this, my reply was not intended as a sneer, merely a jokey response to what seems to me to be a rather bizarre and left-field response to that question. I'm sorry if I caused offense.

So, bringing this fascinating post in full circle, I too am researching backpacks. Anyone have any thoughts on Timbuk2 ( http://www.timbuk2.com) or BOOQ ( http://www.booqbags.com/) other than the fact that both vendors use "creative" spelling in their company names?

I have a MBP and more cables than I need. (I am a believer in "be prepared" so I carry all sorts of gear that I almost never use. I have a brief case I use when I'm trying to look professional. Other times, when I'm just going to a Starbucks for a change of pace, I'd rather use a backpack.

I never use both straps. When traveling by plane, I rarely use the backpack for anything other than computer gear, external HD, etc. So I don't need a huge backpack that doubles as a vast storage unit.

Finally and preemptively, all comments are appreciated and anything anyone says is exactly right! To quote Elaine Benes on Seinfeld : you're all winners! (For those too young, "Seinfeld" was a sit-com from back in the day when people watched video content on big boxes called "televisions").

Cheers!

After much too much time and effort, I decided on the BOOQ Mamba, a discontinued model no less! http://www.booqbags.com/All-Products/Mamba-Pack-black

I like the size. I like the weight. I know I'll never pack a backpack for a weekend so I forced myself not to veer toward bigger models. I couldn't find a leather bag that made sense, though I really wanted leather because of the cooliosity factor.

That said, I really like the BOOQ designs and I'm psyched. I found the Mamba on Amazon and I'm hoping they actually have it in stock so we'll see.

Good luck and thanks for the input.

JB
