I have an unusual problem that just started on my iphone. I have no back button on my safari browser. When I go to a website, such as cnn, just for example. If I click on one of the stories I can't get back to the home page, there is no back button. I called support and they were mystified. They had me restore the phone and that still did not work. anyone encounter this or have any ideas?
It is funny that i am now reading about the lack of a back button on my 3G. it has been a pet peeve of mine yet nobody could give me a solution. OK is there a back button on my 3G ?
You can still see my back button on the bottom left side, it's just grayed out and does not work. I'm not certain, but it started around the time I upgraded to 3.0.1.
Is it possible that the links you are selecting are opening a new page, rather than linking in the same page? Look in the lower right corner; there is an icon that will bring up a page selection window. See if the previous page is one of them.
No, that's not it either, I checked. It's very odd and frustrating when you want to read more than one item on a webite. On cnn or abc I can get back to the homepage by scrolling up to the top and clicking on abc or cnn again, but it's annoying.
I am having the same problem with the disabled back button. And I am positive that this worked before the 3.1 update. I browse to CNN a lot and I've always been able to hit the back button to get back to the CNN homepage but now the back button and the forward button are always disabled. And I am positive that it's not opening a new web page when I click on a link. I hope apple is aware of these issues and will send out a fix soon!
This just started happening to me as well. The forward and back buttons on my iPod Touch used to work just fine. I noticed over the weekend that they are now grey and no longer function. Have tried to resync and even reset the iPod, but they still don't work...
Are you sure there are pages to go forward and back to? If it's the first page, then the buttons should be grey. Try clicking a link on the page to move forward and then see if the back button becomes active.
Same problem here. It started though, when I was still on 3.0. I did a complete wipe and install of 3.1.2 and it still does it. The back and forward buttons are always grey. Definitely not opening a new window, definitely going to a new page. I used to surf all the time, now if I want to I have to use the History list (which is working fine) to go back.
My back and forward buttons are always grey too, but only if If not linked
from another page or
to another page....
It really is about 'sessions' and not only about 'pages', I've found, so if I link to a page in one session then if I go to another session and visit a page then I can't go back to the other page on a different session unless I first switch sessions....
I just tap on the number on the bottom-right of the toolbar and then select the appropriate session before looking for the page that I want....
The back and forward buttons seem to work just fine between pages within a session. I've found.
i have the same problem. no longer have 'back' or 'forward' as a choice when browsing in safari on the iphone... only recently started happening. still had this functionality after upgrading to 3.1 but it definitely happened after the upgrade. my 'back' and 'forward' buttons remain greyed no matter what i do.
apple is failing on so many software fronts right now... they're spreading themselves too thin(ly). i'm particularly irritated by my smart playlist 'recently added' on the iphone... although this playlist is sorted/organized as expected within iTunes, it's totally hosed on the iphone, with totally random and out-of-order songs that don't reflect my sort preferences...
there are countless other irritating software issues showing up as well....
