Motion Files Wont Open!

Can anyone help? I have just updated to Snow Leopard and FCS 3 and have encountered a problem. I can run Motion 4, create files and export, but when I want to open a saved file it says "the document could not be opened" and all I can click is "ok". None of my motion files open, not the old ones and not the files created by Motion 4 itself. I can't open the documents by clicking on the icons, and I can't open the documents by selecting 'open' from 'file' in Motion when the program is running. Have tried deleting both the motion and proapp plist files, that didn't solve anything. I have upgraded from Tiger to Snow Leopard and from FCS 1 to FCS 3...

hi,

this came up a few days ago, and the poster solved the problem. As far as I can remember the upgrade to Snow Leopard made the Finder forget that the Motions files are Motion files. select one in the finder and press apple-I to get info. From there change the Open In dialog to Motion, and then check the do the same with similar files. That did it before I think. Let us know what happens

Thanks, but no that didn't work... the files are recognized as Motion files and clicking on the icons does initiate Motion's startup, the Motion toolbar appears at the top of the screen and then the dialog box appears, "the document could not be opened". I tried changing it anyhow, but motion was already selected, changed it to something else and back again for the change sake, did restart... still no luck!

Erik's trick of logging in as "guest" worked on my system too. Does anyone have an idea if this is some sort of permissions issue or something like that? I've never used my guest login before, so it was "virgin" of any previous Motion settings or prefs...I tried deleting my motion pref files, but that didn't help.

Also interesting, I cannot open motion files from FCP "open in editor" either.

Thanks for your help!

One other point to note...

When I go to the 'about' menu item for each of the studio's constituent applications, the information that appears is as you'd expect BUT when I go to 'About Motion' it says in big letters 'Motion 4 Upgrade'.

Why does it say 'upgrade'? Of course it's an upgrade like all the other apps... but surely once upgraded that shouldn't be relevant. It should just say 'Motion 4'... maybe this is a clue?
