AirPort turns off by itself and won't turn on without restart

Hi

I noticed that for a week or so, just few days prior to upgrade to Snow Leopard my (fully updated) MacBook Pro's wireless turns off for no apparent reason. When that happenes I cannot turn it on unless I restart the computer. I tried several solutions, from checking whether this is just an incompatibility issue with one of the applications I have, and non of the ones proved to cause the problem. I erased airport preferences, reset the PRAM, took the battery out and work on direct supply, but no change in behavior.

Now, if anyone have any idea that might work I'll try some options before taking it to service center.

Thanks in advance.

I got it back yesterday, after 20 hours of use, no problems. But that's not saying much because it'll take a week or two to be sure because you can never predict when airport wants to shutoff. But I found when i was meeting with the genius that jerking the moniter froze the macbook and turned off the wireless card. So if the monitor was the issue hopefully its solved because I have a brand new monitor and got rid of all my scratches too :P. I will update in a week just to see if it was the root cause and if the problems are fixed. As long as ur under warranty, it should be good, otherwise itll take 600-700 dollars.

Good luck with it =). Yeah mine's under warranty... I bought it 2 weeks ago and it's happened since day 1. Oddly enough it hasn't happened today. I think I've discovered for me it happens mainly when I close the lid in sleep then wake it up and use it. Granted this shouldnt happen. But it used to happen after awhile without putting it in sleep too, so I don't know.

Oddly this is the first day in 2 weeks that I've kept a solid internet connection both on my campus wifi and my work's wifi. No idea why or how it could fix itself, but I suppose miracles happen lol. Now the real test will be when I go home and try it. It never has connected to my home network right. It used to connect and I could get 1 or 2 sites to load for a minute or so, then not work... to be fair, it says it's connected but it doesn't access the internet. Since that first few days when I had that it hasn't brought up the internet ever since. That's not as big a deal since my iMac connects to my wireless network no problem... besides it keeps me from being distracted on the internet while working on homework on my laptop lol.

But somethings wrong with my laptop for sure, I just don't have the time to trek all the way down to an Apple store. Blah.

Have you seen all the other discussions reporting this problem. You can leave feedback for Apple here...

Here is what I have just written to them...

Hi, I love my 13" MBP, I have had it for around 6 months now. However recently I have found that it randomly disconnects throughout the day. Extremely frustrating. My old Macbook nearly 2 years old I gave to my wife does not suffer from this at all. We both connect to the same router on the same network. I am not the only person finding this. At the time of writing this mail to you there are over 8000 views on one single support forum thread entitled "Wireless disconnects randomly throughout the day on 13" MBP". There are also many other forum threads describing the same fault. Infact 8 out of the first 15 discussions on your 1st page list of threads reference this problem- thats over half! All people reporting a problem with MacBook Pro's and wifi connection dropouts, running both 10.5 and 10.6. Please can you sort this out.

Here is a list of forums where people are begging for a solution. There are more discussions than this, this is just a selection. Please don't ignore us.
