Video chat doesnt seem to ever want to work!!!! It's very frustrating! I can't even change my port to 443, that fixed the problem when I was on Leopard. Whenever I try to change it to 443 it changes bak to 5190 automatically. I log off and change it, and i noticed when I change it to 443 and click outside of that box, it'll automatically change to 5190. Can anyone help me?
I have the same situation with a logitech mac cam (there are no driver to install for this cam)
I tried PMR reboot, SMC, iUSBcam, Macam ...
but at the end iChat is the only application that doesn't recognize my cam (no problem with photo booth for exemple)
I just moved to Snow Leopard and have been trying to use iChat to video/audio talk with my friends to no avail. I use my Gmail account to connect; and always end up getting the connection timed out message (send report to apple). Could you please point me to the right set of docs / instructions that I could follow to enable video chatting !??
If you can Login to a GoogleTalk Buddy List then you have added your ID to iChat properly.
GoogleTalk is in fact a Jabber server.
This places some restrictions on who you can Video chat with.
iChat uses the same A/V codecs no matter what sort of Buddy List you start with.
So iChat to iChat it will work no matter if you are using the Bonjour Buddy List an AIM login one of a Jabber one.
What you cannot do is Video or Audio only chat to a PC using a Jabber Client (Which is what the PC Google Talk app is) or to a Buddy using the Web based Google Mail page Chat option.
Opening the Send to Apple Error pop up at the detail part on the left will give you more details about why it has failed.

Please, if posting Logs, do not post any Log info after the line "Binary Images for iChat"
I'm also having extreme problems with iChat and a Logitech Quickcam Pro for Mac camera. Unfortunately Apple is not selling iSight anymore, which leaves me with no alternatives. But that is a different topic.
When I invite somebody to a video chat the camera turns on and shows pretty nice pictures. As soon as my counterpart accepts and a connection is established, the Logitech Quickcam stops sending and the picture freezes. I tried resetting PRAM, setting bandwith to 500kbit, deleting iChat.plist files (which helped once). No avail.
I've logged one bonjour session as you suggested to post it here. Maybe you find another hint?
My iMac i7 (running Snow Leopard and iChat v5.0.1) can not start a video iChat except with another Mac on my local Airport network.
Specifically, the Buddy List does not display the green video icon next to a non-local buddy's name when I know they have a video camera on their Mac. (I assume that I'm able to connect to the local Mac because it is not going out through the internet ...)
My camera is working fine, the green video camera icon is displayed next to my icon in my Buddy list and when I click on it, the Built-in iSight window comes up as expected showing me.
When I try connecting with the Apple3 Auto-responders (which show a green video camera icon), if they either decline the invitation, or I hear the "connection" bong but I don't see any video other than myself. I expect to see an Apple commercial or something. The Connection Doctor display shows a chat duration of 00:00:00.
None of my known fellow Mac user buddies are signed in to iChat, so I can't test this with any of them at the moment.
I connect to the internet either:
a) wirelessly to an Airport Extreme BS, or
b) wired to the same AEBS,
and the AEBS is wired to a Comcast-supplied cable Touchstone Telephony Modem, ARRIS Model TM602G/CT.
I changed the Server port number in the com.apple.iChat.AIM.plist to 443 because I was unable to connect at all when it was 5190.
Any ideas as to how to diagnose this problem or things I can try? Many thanks in advance!
