HP Photosmart Premium c309a

I just got a new HP Photosmart Premium c309a to replace another HP printer that died. Luckily, most things work, but a few don't. I am connect via an ethernet cable to a time capsule 1gb (2009 model).

Things that I can't get to work;

1. The scan button on the printer, won't scan to the computer. I get an error message "Scan Problem".
2. I can seem to get it to print using the preset "print from photo tray". It still prints using the main tray. I was printing using the address book, and had envelopes in the top tray.

Any suggestion?

fyi - I tried printing via Bluetooth, and I get the same results.

Just got the new driver from HP : ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software10/COL30073/oj-74786-1/HPInstaller_Inkjet_Full_Group0210.3.dmg

This allows the C309A to work properly, however the integrated Snow Leopard functions of "grouping the PDF files in one file" still crashes.

It's possible however to do the same through the HP scan software.

At least the functions are now working, looking forward to the next Apple update of the HP driver.

I appreciate your help;

From "HP Scan"

There is a send button on the top. Selecting allows me to;

Add Image files to iPhoto Library
Email image files
Email PDF files
Open Image files in Preview
Open PDF File in Preview
Save Image Files in Pictures Folder
Save PDF files in Documents Folder

ie; there is no OCR option.

From my device, if I press the scan button, there is no menu option to OCR the scan.

Am I missing something?

Hi-

I have the Photosmart Premium C309a via ethernet on a Time Capsule network.

With just "finding" the printer in Snow Leopard, I can print and event activate the scanner.

I also have the C309a plugged into my fax phone line and have been receiving faxes.

Question: How do I fax from computers on the network?

I tried to install the HP drivers discussed in this thread, but the HP installer hangs after the "fax forward" screen saying "Device not found."

Should I even be trying to get more functionality like OCR/fax out of C309a? Can the functionality be done without the HP drivers? If I need the HP drivers, how do I get the install to work.

Thanks for any help.

Like other users here, I cannot find a path to OCR with the software bundled with my 309g. I have successfully scanned many documents with OCR previously on my HP F380, so I understand that process.
As far as I can tell, this capability is NOT in the bundled software, notwithstanding the suggestions offered here. If someone has actually found the path, please post it here in its entirety. It is not available after saving as a PDF, in the software that I have.
I've seen 'Net rumors indicating that HP dropped OCR from many of its products -- is that really what is going on here?

I just purchased a HP Photosmart C309A and have a rather simple question. I tried to scan a photo directly from the flatbed rather than the document feeder. It seems like the only way to scan is through the document feeder. Did I miss something? Is there a setting to detect if there is no document in the feeder to check the flatbed? My other HP OfficeJet did this.
