Flash player extremely slow

I'm wondering whats up with Flash, I'm using the newest version and it's eating up nearly all of my cpu while playing back a standard youtube video. On a similar Windows XP setup it's only taking up around 10%? Is flash player on Mac OS X just a POS?

2.33GHz MacBook Pro 3GB RAM, 7200RPM HDD, Mac OS X (10.6)

Yeah, mine is running pretty badly too. Its a clash btwn 10.6 and Flash, Adobe will need to release an update to fix the problem.

Snow Leopard inadvertently installs an older version of Flash.
Visit Adobe, test your version and update if needed.

Also updating to the latest version of the Flash Player (10.0.32.18) the problem persist, i'm on a 8 core with 8 GB of RAM and swf movies are running extremely slow in Safari, no problems with other browsers.

Hope Apple or Adobe will fix it as soon as they can.

In fact, this is an old problem never really taken care of.

I have these CPU drains since several months, but can't take it down to a single update. Of course, it is the combination Safari / Flash which is the problem on some Macs.

Did anyone ever had a real solution? I searched many forums, but it seems to be a constant problem.

Same problem too... Flash 10 is extremely slow on Safari.
I didn't have this problem with Leopard. This issue appeared after installing Snow Leopard.
I have Adobe CS4 installed... could this be part of the problem?
Can I solve this using another browser?

Yes, same problem here... I think the issue is with Safari 4 because I don't remember Flash being as slow with previous versions of Safari.

Also, the problem occurs both on my Dual G5 with Tiger and on my MacBook with Snow Leopard.

Not only is flash slow but it seems to get slower and slower after Safari is open for a little while, to the point where I have to close Safari and launch it again or use Firefox.

Solved it for now, waiting for an official update from Adobe.
Open the Applications folder and search for Safari, cmd+i and check the "Open in 32 bit" option.

Restart Safari.

Thanks for that! The advantages of 64bit Safari are actually quite minimal compared to having reliable Flash playback. I despise Flash in every way, what a horrible slow method of displaying video on the web 😟 It is a shame it became so bloody popular.

They really need to get this fixed, whether it is a Safari or Adobe issue, I for one home it is a Safari issue myself, as it may actually get fixed at some point.
