Changing Mail Default Font & Color?

Open the Mail preference pane. Then click on Fonts & Colors.

You cannot change the default color for composing Mail; it's always black. After you're done composing, you can select the text and change the color, but it still won't be the default color, and there's no assurance that your recipient will see the color at all, since each mail client is different.

Very disappointing not to be able to change the default font color in Mail. It's quite cumbersome to have to do this every time, when one can do it in preferences in Outlook Express. Will Snow Leopard change this?

While we're on the subject, Can someone explain why
the window where the mail boxes are located are different
colors, on different computers?

For example the new laptops seem to have a light green
hue, mine has a light blue hue, and others have a darker
blue.

Same thing in iTunes. The window where the playlists are
located are different hues on different machines.
and those faint lines you see in garage band are a bit
darker as well.

OOps I didn't mean garageband I meant the faint lines
you see in the iTunes window where the songs are
located.

I wonder if it's possible to use the Stationery feature to set up a simple basic emall with the font, color, linespacing, etc. that you want. I think you could set everything up in Pages or Text Edit if you want finer control, then paste it into an email and save it as Stationery.

Anybody tried that yet?

Hi Josh, iirc that did work in Leopard, but Tiger's Mail does not have the Stationary feature... I think we got a Draft to work somehow. 🙂

Here's my solution. Seems to make it really easy:

Set up a Signature, with the words "text goes here" at the top (or whatever phrase you want). Color that (and everything else) the way you want it, set the font, etc. Then use that as your default signature for your mail account. When you create a new email, it's ready to go. Just replace the phrase "text goes here" with actual content and you're all set.
