How to use external Microphone in Logic pro 8?

How to use external Microphone in Logic pro 8?

I am trying to use a condenser mic with interface (blue iclcle USB) and all I am getting is the internal mic. Does anyone know how to change this?

Hi Leza2unes,

Have you selected the device (blue ice USB) from within Logic itself?

Here are a few ideas to get you going. This is assuming that you have installed any drivers needed for the USB device you are using.

Logic Preferences> Audio> devices tab then, "core audio" tab make sure "Core Audio" is selected in the check box and that you see the "Blue Ice" (or something that relates to the name of your device)in the drop down menu next to the word "device".

OK the icicle is Plug and Record so you don't need a driver.

But you will need to set it up in Logic, so go to preferences/audio/devices

And select it as your input device from the drop down menu. If it isn't, you may need to set it up from the Apple preferences.

If so Apple menu/System preferences/sound/input.

Hi Bill,

Thanks. I went into devices and saw it in the drop down menu for a second and it disappeared?? So I shut down logic completely, restarted and all I have in the devices in the built in mic and built in input -any ideas why it would disappear?

No idea, unless you unplugged it.

FTR this is plug and play, so try unpluging and replugging the icicle to see if it appears then.

Also is it appearing in Apple menu/system preferences/sound/input ?

Just an Idea and I am clutching at straws a little here,

Does it make a difference if you start Logic with the device plugged in? Dose it show up then even temporarily? Or maybe restarting the computer with the device plugged.

Sorry to state the obvious if you have already tried this.

Hi

Its been plugged in the whole time, just unplugged and re-plugged but doesn't make any diff. The Icicle is showing in system pref, but just not in logic core audio?

No thanks notefarm thats exactly what crossed my mind. tried both ways, the first time I went into core audio/devices it showed temporarily, as I went to click on it it disappeared?? the icicle plugs directly into the base of the mic, and runs into logic by a direct usb connection. I have disconnected and reconnected the wires I'm baffled. I know it works because the blue light is on inside icicle, and it is being picked up in system pref/ sound. It must be something I'm missing in logic.

I think that you may need to set this device up as an aggregate device becuse there is no output for the device and I believe Logic needs devices to have both input and outputs.

This Mic interface is just an input device, right? In that case you'll have to make an *Aggregate Device* in *Audio Midi Setup*, because Logic 8 +can not use input-only devices+. So you'll need to combine it with the built-in output of your Mac.
