Aperture is very slow with Snow Leopard

Hello,
I updated my MyBook with Snow Leopard. The (big) problem is that Aperture 2.1.4 is now very slow when I make change to images. CPU usage is very high and Aperture is unusable.
What can I do?
Thanks in advance.

After days of trying just about every trick this Mac user of 25 years knows and after 3+hours on the phone with Apple support (which included running their Capture Data program and sending the log off to Engineering) the resolution was backing up all my data, killing my user and setting up a new user account. Only then did Aperture once again behave as advertised.

Its baffling because removing Library files at both the user and root levels, one would have thought, would have obviated the need to set up a new user account, but it did not.

Its a bit of a PITA but the slowness I experienced when trying to print from Aperture is gone, hopefully for good.

To test if this will work for you, create a new user, log in and open your Aperture Library file, which of course you will need to make accessible to the new user account by putting it on an external drive. Good Luck

I'm having the same is as FVA3 above is having - print dialogs so slow as to be unusable. And as stated above, creating a new user eliminates the problem but sure enough, I could not find a single preference, cache, cookie, etc. that would fix it for the original account. There's got to be something that can fix this issue other than creating a new account!

I really want to avoid going through the process of copying all my data over to a new user (especially since there's a chance that I'll copy something that will move the problem to the new account as well).

Maybe the 10.6.3 update will fix this.

Buddy,

After the episode, it happened again in my gf's account. I'm convinced the gremlin lives in one of those invisible files that OSX keeps from sight, so I wouldn't worry about copying something that will cause the problem to reappear in the new account. I but to be sure, copy your "Home" folder to an external drive, then copy back the contents of each folder, except "Library", which I took care to only copy things related to "Mail" or "Safari", etc.

Don't use Time Machine or SuperDuper or some other cloning software. Do it by hand. Its not so bad. And its always good to have a backup.

Good Luck,
FVA3

BTW: I could not get either the Aperture guys or the OS guys to take "ownership" of the problem, so I wouldn't hold out the hope that either 10.6.3 or the next rev of Aperture will fix this.

I have the same problem: printing is very, very slow within Aperture 2.1.4. since I've installed SL. I created a new user which solved the problem for approx 3 weeks but now, I've got the SAME problem AGAIN with the new user as well!!! Can't SOMEONE FROM APPLE help here???? Please? Or do I have to wait for Aperture X? If this isn't solved in due time I would need to switch to Lightroom 3. It would be a shame - besides this grave bug - I love Aperture!

Checking back here after a month or two to see if there are any conclusions or updates to the problems with Aperture 2.1.4 and SL. I ended up removing Aperture, re-sinstalling 2.0, and updating to 2.1.4. Problems immediately showed up again.

Did the whole thing again, but updated only as far as 2.1.2, and everything seems fine.

At 2.1.4, I am not able to do backups to vaults or edits, and Aperture crashes after a few minutes.

Can we conclude that after all this time, Apple will not issue an update to address the problems people experienced, and this version is at a dead end?

Apple has released Aperture 3.0 and I have downloaded this and given it a try. The slowness in the print dialog has gone in this new version which I am so thankful for. In fact the whole print dialog has been redesigned in version 3.0 and is much snappier.

It will be interesting to see if the application in general is snappier than it's predecessor, let's hope so!

Does anyone know how I can go back to Aperture 2? I tried simply reinstalling, but Ap3 remained. I tried renaming Ap3 to something else and installing Ap2 but no joy. I tried deleting Ap3 and when I go to customize the Ap2 install, installing the application isn't an option. Assuming that this is a license issue because my Ap2 disk is an upgrade, I tried reinstalling Ap 1.5 but I similarly can't install ap1.5.
