Lexmark C500 Printer & Snow Leopard

Hi,

I've always had trouble getting this printer to work with my iMac. Never again will I buy a Lexmark printer, but I am determined to use what I have. Can anyone help me?

I emailed them for support and they tell me to use the 10.6.0 install disk to get their drivers. However the Options Package freezes with 2 minutes to go, and I have to Force Quit. Tried a couple of times with same result.

Lexmark's website shows no support for 10.6.0 for the C500. I've had this printer about 18 months, managed to print 455 pages back in Leopard. It's connected via USB and I can see it from Print & Fax.

It's been a wonderful paper weight > Cheers

iMac Intel 2.4 GHz, 3 GB memory, 667 MHz, Mac OS X (10.6)

Unbelievable. You give them the solution and they prefer to refer to a page that says you're effed.

After a few months irritations finally the beast is working! Many thanks for this solution! Apparently Lexmark higher management isn't aware of their lazy developers.

Oh, trust me, they're VERY aware of the problem we're having. They just don't care because they want you to buy a NEW printer instead.

Hi Folks,

I'm a surgeon and am barely self-sufficient with tech stuff. I am having the same C500n issues as described in this post and I have tried this fix. I think that I was successful with all steps except for the last one. When I try to print from the printer I created, it get an error message: "Network host '10.0.1.1' is busy; will retry in 30 seconds..."

Any idea what I have done wrong? The printer is plugged into the USB port on the Airport Extreme Base Station. The IP address of the AEBS is 10.0.1.1 according to my Airport Utility. Printer works fine as it sits on my wife's PC laptop through Bonjour.

Had same problems as everyone else with upgrading to Snow Leopard (10.6.2) and the Lexmark 500n. Lexmark remotely worked on the problem and i was told that 500n was not supported. too bad for me. Thanks to this forum and Wolfgang9a, the ONE LINE fix in terminal DOES work well! Thank you, thank you, thank you! You are a wonderful group!

Shame on you Lexmark for not helping your customers!

Hi guys-

I'm one of thousands of people that are in the same situation here- I can't use my C500 with my new imac. It's ridiculous!

I read that you guys have found a fix here- but I'm technically incompetent and was wondering if someone could kindly post a step-by-step IDIOT PROOF way of getting this sorted?

I'm sure you'd get a lot of respect from thousands of people like myself who are stuck here!

Congratulations for your solution. Trying to apply it myself I got stuck with line No. 2...navigate to /Library/Printers/Lexmark. How do I do that?? Excuse my incompetence.

Though we all managed to get it to work on the network using the method described here, has anyone managed to get it to work via USB? I don't seem to be able to print this way...

Guys, I really want to use this printer again... I can see a few of you have figured this out, and I'd be incredibly grateful (along with thousands of others I'm sure) if you could take a couple of minutes to explain to an idiot like myself how I can fix this?

Awesome fix Wolgang!

Remember that you have to install the Lexmark Printer drivers from their website for 10.5, so that the folder is actually installed for this fix to work. The computer in question was actually connected via USB and this solution worked.
