Lexmark C500 Printer & Snow Leopard

Hi,

I've always had trouble getting this printer to work with my iMac. Never again will I buy a Lexmark printer, but I am determined to use what I have. Can anyone help me?

I emailed them for support and they tell me to use the 10.6.0 install disk to get their drivers. However the Options Package freezes with 2 minutes to go, and I have to Force Quit. Tried a couple of times with same result.

Lexmark's website shows no support for 10.6.0 for the C500. I've had this printer about 18 months, managed to print 455 pages back in Leopard. It's connected via USB and I can see it from Print & Fax.

It's been a wonderful paper weight > Cheers

I solved the problem for myself on OS X 10.6.2:

1. install the driver for OS10.5 from the Lexmark downloads
2. open terminal and navigate to /Library/Printers/Lexmark
3. sudo chown -R root:admin C500\(CUPS\)/
4. delete any existing printer using this c500 driver
5. create a new printer using the HP jetdirct - Socket protocol, correct IP and a queuename "port1"

That's it - working fine with my C500n over the network.

Seem to have a problem with the *slash after CUPS* in point3...any ideas..
