iTunes won't recognize my iPod

I'll plug in my iPod to sync it, but iTunes won't recognize that my iPod is even plugged in. I know it's not an issue with the cord, because the iPod will say it's charging, but iTunes won't acknowledge it's presence. Any suggestions?

Argh. I'm in the same boat. Upgraded to iTunes 9 and now it won't read my iPod, although it shows up on my desktop. I don't want to do an iPod restore as it has 5000 songs on it from my old computer and I'd lose them.

Desperate for a solution! I tried deleting all of the iTunes 9 application and files, and installing the 8 version, but then it just said the iTunes library had been created in a newer version so it couldn't read it.

I've been debating about going for a Time Machine backup, but don't want to lose the files I've created in the past two weeks.

Does anyone from Apple read these forums??

I havea similar problem, however, I tried my old Ipod nano, one I got in 2005. That one worked, I try my ipod classic 80 Gig once more, does not, now I synced it in winamp and formatted it and everything, it won't recognize in itunes, but after syncing it in winamp, as soon as I unplug my ipod, it restores right away to factory settings and no music shows up, and it says that there is 0 space left, once plugged back in it says I have full disk space left, can anyone assist me?

btw, I'm using windows 7 and itunes 9 can this be a factor even though the nano worked in itunes just swimmingly?
