3.1 WIFI Issues

Any one having problems with WIFI after upgrading to 3.1... I've never had any issue with mine but after the upgrade it cant see any WIFI networks, I've tried restoring and tried it before and after it did restore my data back on and it still doesn't work.

Any one got any ideas?

Agreed. After the 3.1 update, my 3G will now drop the connection and prompt me for the key with a message that the password was incorrect. I was having problems with frequent drops on 3.01, but had tweaked my router settings and fixed it so it was usable again.

I'll go so far as to say that this is even more frustrating now than the last wifi problem was.

Hmmmm, a look to my left, while Pandora was streaming has just shown the same incorrect password prompt again.

Brilliant.

I am by far the BIGGEST Apple fan I know, which is odd in I.T. field, and this is even beginning to wear my patience with Apple lately. A simple search of the boards reveals that this is a huge problem, and has been discussed since the release of the 3.0 update. I'm holding out hope that Apple will realize and fix the issue, but this is getting ridiculous.

Same problem here. Updated to 3.1 and now Wi-Fi Networks comes up blank, I have a MAC address for the Wi-Fi interface but can't see any networks. It seems to clock for a second or two and never displays the local nets. Worked fine before the 3.1 upgrade. Went through the Apple Support suggestions (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1559), did a Settings> General> Reset> Erase All Content and Settings with no luck.

yeah, same thing. No Wifi since the 3.1 upgrade last week. Have trawled through the forums, and tried most of the suggested tricks.... none work. Hopefully there will be as 3.1.1 soon. Unless there is another trick that's hot off the press...and works?

(my 1st generation ipod touch was fished out the drawer and updated to the latest ... works a dream. Good thing I kept it.)

UPDATE: If you have an Airport Extreme Base Station, I can confirm that all of your wifi problems will disappear if you use that instead of another router. Why? Don't know, but I suspect it has something to do with the power output of the signal on other routers versus the AEBS. It's almost as though the iPhone has a problem staying latched on to wifi if the power signal fluctuates at all. That's just a guess of course, but that's what it seems like.

I happened to have an AEBS that I recently replaced with a D-Link DIR-825 because I wanted the dual band. I've connected my AEBS in bridge mode for use just with our iPhones, and the connection problems have vanished.

Hope this helps someone until Apple can either sort out the wifi power on the phone, or until we all figure out various ways of tweaking the power output settings on our routers.

SAme problems here - i thought by posting it may reflect the magnitude of the problem so apple may do something about it.

MAC address appears in the settings>general>about

no networks show up when wifi is turned on. This is a brand new iphone - a 5 day old replacement after my previous iphone wifi chip failed. Come on apple. if your hardware breaks on its own, dont screw good iphones with crap software.

Similar issue for me too.
I am sharing cable broadband using an iMac as a base station.
This was working without any problems until the 3.1 upgrade.
In the Wi-Fi Networks settings, I am connected. But the top left icon shows a mobile network connection not wi-fi and apps access the internet using the mobile network. What's going on Apple?
Tried deleting network settings on the phone, rebooting Mac and cable modem, rebooting iPhone, different combinations of the above. All to no avail. Erasing network settings similarly does not help.
Fix this soon please Apple. This is what we expect from MS not Apple...

My problem with 3.1 is with leaving and joining WiFi. My iPhone WiFi connection icon at the top of the iPhone screen shows up correctly when I'm in the range of my Linksys router, but neither text nor email comes or goes. If I shut down my iPhone by hitting the power button and restart it, all the text and email floods in. When I leave the range of my WiFi, text and email stops again. The 3G connection icon at the top of the iPhone screen shows up correctly. When I shut down the iPhone and restart, email and text works again.

It is really annoying to have to restart my iPhone every time I change a network.

I have the same problem, since I upgrade my 3G to the 3.1 firm.

In fact I can see the wifi access, but it don't really connect correctly. The result I have never acces to any wifi spot. It worked like a charm before the upgrade.
I tried to restore the network settings on the phone, to restore the firmware with a new phone account on the phone, but nothing helps....
I tried many things on my router at home but it doesn't help much (it seems that it's easier to connect when the router has no security enabled !!
I also tried how it works when the bluetooth is off (because the new firmware is senced to improved wifi while bluetooth is on) but it doesn't seem to change anything.

Please Apple give us an update quick !!
