3.1 WIFI Issues

I've noticed since 3.1 my 3G disconnects from my wifi after a period of time (which it didn't do before) and I sometimes get prompts for the router password. I have to go back to settings and reconnect and then its fine for a while until it disconnects again. This is in the same places in my house where it worked fine last week (pre 3.1).

(Both of our phones have also suffered the dreaded black screen, no responsiveness as well)

I'm having / Had the same issue.

Using a static ip (w/gateway (router) and dns) or setting up an ip address reservation on the router for the iphone solved the problem.

With DHCP my phone gets a IP and subnet but the problem is it doesn't get the gateway and dns hence rendering wifi useless.

same problem... right after upgrade to 3.1, wi-fi does not see any network. I tried a rollback to 3.0.1, still the same, no wi-fi.

I have had an email from someone at Apple asking for various bits of information. That might mean Apple are still at the 'That can't be right' stage of troubleshooting the problem!!

I've seen something in addition to this !! The 3.1 firmware is censed to be better when you have wifi and bluetooth (I don't remember the real explanation..). And in my case, as I already mentioned WIFI doesn't work anymore (I can see the access point but impossible to get on it). But the new thing is that when I have WIFI and BLUETOOTH on together, bluetooth doesn't work great anymore in my car. I must switch off the wifi to have a correct function of bluetooth !! Did you see the same ??

I am having the same issue.

I upgraded to Itunes 9, iphone 3.1, and I lost my wifi. It still shows a wifi address, but it won't recognize any routers. Did a restore, nothing.

Brought it to the apple store, they did a restore, and nothing. They deduced it to a hardware issue and said since I was no longer covered by applecare I could get another 3g for 199 or a 3gs for 399.

I really don't think it is a hardware issue, so I'm holding out for a software update fix.

Is there anything else we can do? contact anyone at apple?

same problem here. Wifi is still there, but the iphone doesn't show it. Even not after a reset of my network settings!

I've noticed issues with wifi also after the 3.1 upgrade. I will be connected and it will suddenly drop, even if I'm in the same room as the rounter (<5 feet away). My iMac and PC two rooms away are connected but the iPhone indicator drops to no signal. I turn the wifi off/on and then it reconnects. Never know when it's going to happen.

same problem after updating to 3.1, wifi signal weakened.had to remove my router (airport express) from one place to another to receive better wifi signal.
Also deleted som applications that were preventing iphone to see network.

Ditto. iPhone wifi rendered useless after 3.1 upgrade. I have found no solution other than the suggestion to trade in the phone for another, which seems counter-intuitive given it appears that software broke the phone. Software should be able to fix it, no?

Me too! After updating to 3.1 my wifi disconnects every five minutes and asks for password, then I have to type it in again and it either connects or more often says unable to connect. It's so annoying!!!

There is nothing wrong with my router or any settings and everything else in my home works flawlessly, as did the iPhone before 3.1!!

Loosing faith in apple now.

Similar problems w/ my phone. Wifi works fine at some places such as starbucks -- but now my connection at work which has not changed location power or a/b/g/n/whatev, connects for a brief moment and then disappears. It used to locked on pretty well.

same story for me....i updated to itunes 9, and 3.01 for my phone and now no wifi. i got it working yesterday though a series of router reboots and resetting the network settings on the phone. worked all day...even picked up my work's wireless but something happened on the ride home because now it doesn't seem my home wifi.

anyone had any luck connecting to wifi since the 3.1 update? what the deal with this? I usually read in here before updating but this time for some reason didnt, I love my iphone but sure miss the wifi.

Me too...both mine and wife's iPhone 3G's are wifi bricked after the 3.1 upgrade...plus we are being hit with the battery drain...this is an awful release...taken my favourite gadget of all-time and made it pretty much useless...very poor Apple
