itunes 9 crash/hang

Since installing itunes 9, i get a spinning beach ball every couple of seconds/minutes. Sometimes it goes away, but I seem to have to force quit every couple of minutes. I have reinstalled the software twice. Not sure how to fix, as the program is basically unusable now.

Long time PCer'who bought his first mac (iMac 27 and MacBook pro) I'm experiencing the same issues in iTunes. It took me 5 hours to rip 49 cd's last night! This would have been a 2 hour job at the most on my PC. I'm so sick of seeing the "pinwheel of doom" that I'm starting to miss the old "blue screen of death". Come on Apple fix this thing before I make a boat anchor out of this brick!

I've used every version of iTunes and every upgrade makes iTunes more and more problematic. I did nothing more complicated today than try to play a simple mp3 with iTunes and it hangs, and hangs, and hangs. I've sent so many reports to Apple, they'll need to hire more monkeys just to read my reports alone.

It's nothing any enduser is doing because there are too many different endusers of varying knowledge and skill levels, and too many different computer configurations. The conclusion is there is universal condemnation of iTunes.

The problem is iTunes is simply a bad program that Apple obviously cannot fix. This is an indictment of a corporation that claims to be at the forefront of computer technology. Can't even write a program to play an mp3? What a farce!

I am seriously pi@@*$ off with this problem. I have tried everything including reinstalling iTune 9.03 and now can't even import/update my library from time machine as iTunes crashes the system every time. So now can't access any of my 9000 music tracks or 40 films or iPhone apps or audio books etc.

Remind me again why I spent over £3K and moved over to Apple last year?

At least with a PC you have some workaround but with this total forced adoption of iTunes as the media player then you're screwed. It's frankly appalling for this software bug to have been unresolved this long and I can tell you the honey moon is definitely over as far as I'm concerned.

For christ sake Apple, get your act together and sort this out.

Dear Apple,

Its time for iTunes 10. Banish all flavors of 9 to the land of better to be forgotten. And sign me up as another user annoyed at the seeming endless series of problems with all the flavors of 9.0.x.

I would love to send you a crash report but the dialog box is blank and, after waiting 15 minutes for the spinning ball to cease, clicking on the "OK" does nothing.

Another nice job by the marketing folks and woefully inadequate job by the techies. Perhaps its time to bust this mess up into separate, manageable, programs.

Respectfully yours,

Apple user for 26 years

well, you could send your problem here:

http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

it's worth a shot...if enough people who are having problems send them in, maybe the problems will get fixed...it's my understanding that Apple techs don't usually read discussion group posts, so, since crash report doesn't work (which really is annoying when apps crash - what good is a crash report function that can't be used after a crash???) the only way they'll know there are problems is if people report them...

good luck!

Have to jump into this topic! iTunes 9.x is rubbish. Less and less user-friendly. I can't use iTunes U any more. I get an error message "(-9812)" that says that there is a problem with the iTunes store and to try again later. Got a response from tech support, basically asking me to take an axe to my registry to fix the problem. I wish I could re-install 8.x, but I think its un-possible. New format makes it impossible to see the title of Podcast episodes, and it seems slooooow. Anyone have any thoughts about the "-9812" error?
