itunes 9 crash/hang

Since installing itunes 9, i get a spinning beach ball every couple of seconds/minutes. Sometimes it goes away, but I seem to have to force quit every couple of minutes. I have reinstalled the software twice. Not sure how to fix, as the program is basically unusable now.

Have to jump into this topic! iTunes 9.x is rubbish. Less and less user-friendly. I can't use iTunes U any more. I get an error message "(-9812)" that says that there is a problem with the iTunes store and to try again later. Got a response from tech support, basically asking me to take an axe to my registry to fix the problem. I wish I could re-install 8.x, but I think its un-possible. New format makes it impossible to see the title of Podcast episodes, and it seems slooooow. Anyone have any thoughts about the "-9812" error?

This article might help with the 9812 message.

I've had this happen a couple of times, and is usually related to an unexpected event on your BUS. I have several external disk, and at times I'll get this error, I'll switch from FireWire to USB, or eSATA and the issue clears right up. Then with a reboot, I can switch back to the original BUS type I was using before and the issue has resolved. I'm not sure why a reboot doesnt clear the error, but until you can get a clean sync with your disk on a functional BUS, you will get these sync interrupts.

If your library is on an internal Drive, then you are going to have to find a way to get a clear sync, and that MAY be an upgrade of iTunes, but be ware, that did not work for me and is probably not going to work for you either.

I keep my library on external disks and solve this (when it happens, 3 times in 3 years so not all THAT frequent) by having redundant connection methods.

I have OS Snow leopard 10.6.2 and itunes 9.2 and i have also hang problems.
I want to login is store and i get the beachball.
When i want to authorize my account to this Mac then i have also the beachball.
So now i must erase and sync my iphona again with a normal PC. Whaaaaaaa.
I thougt that itunes was a macintosh speciality.
Not any more 😟
I hate Windows and Apple forced me to get work with windows.

Just tossing my hat in. Itunes hangs several seconds in consistently when I play m4a I bought from the apple store. Seems to have issues even from the finder. Running the current everything, deleted all my 3rd party codecs. Just started happening recently. Can't see anything useful in console.

I'm new to apple products (now have iphone4/ipad) (been coding on pc's since the 80's) I assumed apple stuff just worked, but itunes is the shoddiest piece of garbage I've encountered in a long while. It constantly hangs so I have to force close it, 5+ times a day (it's hung as i write this). This with the iphone antenna issue and the ipad update going wrong requiring a factory restart and so lots of my time to set it up again, I've realised apple are just as rubbish as everyone else but at twice the price!

Hey I went out for a few hours, came back and guess what itunes is still not responding, though isn't shown as such in task manager, seems to be using 20% cpu to..... communicate with aliens? as it sure won't respond to humans. iGarabage, don't suppose there's any 3rd party apps you can use instead that actually work properly? itunes is beyond a joke of uselessness, most flakey program I've seen in 25 years!

Hey I just noticed this is itunes for MAC forum, so it's as a cr@p on a MAC as on a PC then.
