itunes 9 crash/hang

Since installing itunes 9, i get a spinning beach ball every couple of seconds/minutes. Sometimes it goes away, but I seem to have to force quit every couple of minutes. I have reinstalled the software twice. Not sure how to fix, as the program is basically unusable now.

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6)

Patrick, I had the same issue... I get the beachball of death at launch and iTunes becomes unresponsive until a Force Quit. I found the preference file: com.apple.iTunes.plist and deleted it. After that, I was able to at least launch it again without a crash and am attempting to update the iPhone software as I write this.
It seems iTunes 9 was rushed out the door a bit early.

I think OS makes no difference here...

If I had to guess, I'd say Apple released this ahead of schedule to cover up the fumble on the ipod touch not getting a camera. We've all seen prototype cases and even an actual working ipod touch with camera prototype. Something went wrong and they needed a big hit for their announcement. It's VERY obvious. Steve wouldn't talk about the fact that he was gravely ill until now and it's the same thing with the ipod... they don't want to look bad so they come out with some BS excuse about how it's for gaming. Well there's a lot of games and apps that use the camera so I'm not buying that for a second.

Long story short...
I'm getting the same problem I see from a lot of Mac users on here... itunes freezes up and you have to manually kill it and restart it. It was released pre-maturely.

my imac 3.06ghz / snow leopard just completely freezes. can ping it externally, but can't ssh/login so its completely locked up. has done this 3 times in an hour since iTunes 9 install, and never before..

and itunes 9 is an automated software update ! my wife just installed the update on her iMac 20" as well so its spreading like a virus !

does anyone from apple read this thread to see how many people are having a problem ??

Funny that... It's clear you are a PC person we can tell by the added info you left for your computer type. That's fine and well, but clearly you are way off target. If you're intent was to stir up the negative, this forum wasn't designed for the purpose, I strongly suggest you locate a PC forum where you can vent your more then ridiculous gaunter. We here express issues that should be addressed and fixed, with the possibility that others may or may not have notice about software or hardware. Unlike yourself your badger is without merit.

No negativity towards macs here. I have both a Macbook and a Vista PC. I haven't updated on the Macbook yet, but I may not after the performance on my PC. It doesn't hang or crash, but the interface locks up and the music skips CONSTANTLY while playing. Anytime I change playlists or click a new song and make a new Genius list, it seems to be giving me fits. Other applications (Outlook, iSkysoft) are working fine simulatneously, so it really is iTunes itself. It's really frustrating. Uninstalled and reinstalled from scratch and still having the same problems. May have to switch over to Winamp until it gets worked out...
