I have an officially unlocked iPhone 3G (got it at Vodafone without any contracts and not locked to any sim). And currently, i'm using it on a different 3g carrier which does not provide iphones. after the initial upgrade to 3.0, internet tethering didn't appear in the options. only after i installed a mobile config, i was able to tether. my carrier doesn't have any problems with tethering, and even sells 3g usb dongles just for data usage.
My question is the following: will i loose the ability to tether after upgrading to 3.1?
after months with a blocked standard feature (now it finally works within jailbreaking) i DO NOT believe anything like "BUT if it is really confirmed that tethering is working in 3.1.3" .....
Finally i decided iPhone is not the right appliance for my work ---> back to NOKIA.
I also have an officially unlocked 3GS and can confirm that tethering is back again after update to 3.1.3 and with mobileconfigs from benm.at. At last.
Same here. I´ve got a factory unlocked 3GS tethering is back again with 3.1.3
I just inserted the necessary APN info in the section for Internet Tethering, it is the same as that required for Cellular Data - is there a chance those experiencing problems didn't realize that one needs to insert the APN data separately from the Cellular Data (I don´t recall havin to do that before as I believe Internet Tethering simply used the Cellular Data settings, now it´s a separate field [below the MMS settings].
Correct. Just removed the mobileconfig and inserted APN. Very handy. Just change APN when SIM-swap (or may be there by default from the more enlightened networks).
Tethering back for me. Updating, removing the mobileconfig a had to use tethering with os 3.0 en manually entering the APN both for cellular data and tethering (for Proximus, Belgian carrier). Everything works fine, both USB en bluetooth tethering. And I can also see my usage for cellular and tethering data.
So I think Apple finally got the message that in some countries carriers have no problem with tethering... Great!
Should make no difference to 3 Ireland....data is data. If I don't use this SIM in my iPhone, it's is my MiFi providing access to my iPhone by wifi. Cén dochar? 🙂
(but if I was them I would rethink my business model when my customers can make phone call on which I am making no profit as part of a 10 euros add-on ...)
I've been using the VoiP on fring for a week now and nary a whimper. I wouldn't pay it any mind. Besides, using tethering, that 1GB add-on won't be long going....another 10€, sir? Ching-ching.
