iTunes 9 Not Recognizing iPod

So i just upgraded to iTunes 9... very interesting and different... cool setup

i attach my iPod (classic, 80gig), and it comes up as connected, and it shows up on my desktop, but it does not appear in iTunes... i can disconnect from the computer no problem, but i get nothing in iTunes... i've tried twice and i still have nothing...

Anyone else having similar problems/ know how to fix this?

For some reason, I can't post a new topic. Anyway, my new iPod classic is connected to my Mac and it synced up just fine, but the battery meter in both iTunes is reporting as full even though it's still on about half-charge from the factory.

This picture shows the battery meter in iTunes. Am I stupid, or is this the fully charged icon?

Same thing with the iPod:

But when it's unplugged, it shows that the battery is half-empty!

Any help would be appreciated.

In case no one else have been able to answer this problem, I think I have a solution.
You do not have to reinstall iTunes.

1) Go to: Control Panel
2) Go to: System
3) Go to: Hardware
4) Go to: Device Manager
5) Go to: Universal Serial Bus Controllers
6) Reinstall the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver (double click on it, wizard will do the rest)

Doing this immediately solved my iPod recognizing issue.
You may need to do this for each iPod.

Note: You may have yellow question marks on others drivers, you may want to install these also.

GOOD LUCK!!!

I just yesterday upgraded to iTunes 9.0.3 which was supposed to "fix" this problem, but it didn't fix the problem of the computer (and iTunes) not recognizing the old iPod when connected with the original serial cable. Then, I tried using the USB connector supplied with the iPod Touch, and iTunes did recognize the old iPod, but then it somehow managed to drain the battery in a matter of seconds and abort the sync. I also got error messages about not enough permissions, etc. This is nuts! Aarrrrrgh!

Correction. The computer did not actually drain the battery (I am now listening to the iPod which shows about 80% charged), but it drains down the symbol for battery charge and apparently "thinks" the battery is empty. Crazy. But same result -- sync shut down with a scolding that I didn't put away my device properly. Also said it couldn't sync because it couldn't find the file for my iPod, and besides I didn't have proper privileges, etc. Infuriating! Lots of people seem to have this or similar problems, but so far I have not seen any solutions. Help?

+This is ridiculous. A software upgrade renders the iPod useless?+

yes, and this isn't the first time it's happened either. last time it happened a couple years ago, there was not one word from Apple anywhere that even acknowledged there was a problem. we just had to sit around and wait for them to do something about it at their own convenience.
