Update 3.1 Turned my iPhone into a Brick

I have the current Mac OS X 10.6 and iTunes 9.0, went to update my iPhone 3G to 3.1 and now my phone is useless. Tried all the tips on tech support with no luck. iPhone stays in recovery mode. I get error codes 2006, 1611, and 26 during different attempts to recover and restore.

Any suggestions?

All I have to say is I am so glad I came here first to read these discussions. I haven't upgraded to 3.1 and I don't think I will. I noticed last night when I was syncing my phone, that there was a new update but I decided to wait.

I have a 3G, and its only a month old, brand new from AT&T, after I got it I did the 3.0 update and it freaked my phone out, it froze, I got the lovely itunes/plus combo usb cord screen and had to restore it on my mom's computer, then my computer wouldn't even recognize the phone then I had to take it in to AT&T, and they were nice enough to put my itunes account back on the phone and take my mom's off.

So needless to say, updating my software at all just scares me.

So, I really feel so bad for you guys right now, but I have to thank you for all the feedback cause I'm not updating anything until Apple fixes this.

i also have a bricked iphone due to 3.1 update.

apple store wants 200 to fix it because some of the water damage indicators went off (probably due to sweat or something - this thing has never been dropped in water).

the thing that ****** me off is that it was running perfectly fine before the advised 3.1 update was attempted. **** ITTT

ARRRRRGHHHHHHHH! Cant tell you how frustrated i am. went to sync some songs last night, and itunes tells me there's a new update. So i click "ok you can update my phone". NOW: 24 HOURS LATER IT IS STILL NOT WORKING.
have tried restoring it COUNTLESS times.
have read all forums on this topic and tried every hint. to no avail.
have rung Mac Support "uh, we've never heard of those error numbers"
have taken it back to the vodafone store "uh, maybe you should try and download the new software on a friends computer"
ok so now i'm getting error (2002) consistently.
Any ideas?
anyone??

again, completely 100% legit. i'm not smart enough to do anything illegal with computers...

Just thought i'd put some songs on the phone. Got the upgrade request and accepted. Turned my phone into a useless pile of junk with none of my data on it. Lost contacts, work related emails, everything Might have well said - Apple would like to ruin up your life. Do you wish to continue?

Why, in the name of all that is holy doesn't the upgrade take a backup before it runs, you dont get the option to do this, its either a 'yes i want the upgrade' or 'no I want to remain in the dark ages'. I just wish I had taken the later option.

Apple, you owe me compensation for this utter debacle. I await your response.

What the ****, I’m not normally this mad but after sitting on hold for half an hour to apple then finding out you need an appointment to see someone in a store to then read the forums to find they ****** up and have no fix in sight. I’m mad, like really mad the kinda mad you get when you have a baby on the way and this is your only phone and you don’t know when that child’s going to be born because the OS on your phone goes bat **** crazy and turns the once phone of my dreams into an object of uselessness forcing me to vent my anger on a forum to others who are going through the same pain.

Note to Apple hurry the F up and fix the problem I might be out at the shops and my partner could be delivering my child and I could miss that special moment because you cant test for s+$t

I am having a **** of a time with this. I have had to restore my 16 GB iPhone 3G three times now because of this. I have never had an issue with it before.

Apple, better come up with a solution fast. Each time I have to restore and and reinstall it's at least an hour, not to mention the time to select and import songs and videos.

Today my iPhone shut down on me at work and it was a bloody nightmare. In a service van you need a phone. All of my contacts, addresses, maps are locked in this thing. I need them and I can't get them out.

I updated my mac and itunes before backing up my iphone and upgrading the software. Then I went to Las Vegas ( I am in OK) and found even though I had 5 bars, I couldn't use my phone in the hotel, my battery wouldn't stay charged and my emails wouldn't update. My daughter's Blackberry continued working at all times. It wasn't until I got home that my phone updated and I could make calls. I could text though. Doesn't Vegas support 3G?????? I was not happy.
