3.1 -- Unresponsive iPhone?

I did the 3.1 update around noon today, and since then I've had my phone become unresponsive 4-5 times.

Basically, it will sleep (or I'll lock it), and then that's it, it won't respond to any input or display anything. Home and sleep buttons don't work, silence, etc.. The only thing that works is to hold down home and sleep for 10 seconds and hard reboot it. Also odd is that it still seems to be doing... something. I can call the phone and it behaves as if it's ringing, not as if it's turned off.

Anyone else seen this or have any ideas on how to fix it? Just now did the restore from backup, so hopefully that takes care of it....

Have you tried resetting or hard ressetting the iPhone?

I updated my iPhone 3gs yesterday and it stopped locking. It won't auto lock, it won't lock when I press the Power/Lock button on the top of the phone. I took it to the apple store today and they said to try restoring it and then bring it in to them tomorrow if it's not working. Well it's not working. We will have to see what happens when I take it to them in the A.M.

Same issue here, I have updated almost 24hrs ago. Hard booting seems to do the work but why the trouble!? I hope they fix it!

Idem for mine..now i turn off wi-fi connection and put the stand by on 2 minutes....it's seems i have no more trouble...

Add me to the list. I have to do a hard reset (hold down Power and Home until it resets) to get it back up and running. Wireless is enabled but unused. I never use Bluetooth for anything. Basic iPhone with maybe 3 pages of apps installed.

Same here friends, exactly the same...iPhone 3G, about 2gb of free space, using exchange and 2 email accounts.
Since yesterday, it passed out 4 times.

You can add me to the list. iPhone 3G 16GB, it's been completely unresponsive. I've tried hard reboots, and resetting all settings, but so far no joy. I've heard there's a 3.1.1 update on 25 September, but I hope they do something sooner than that!

At the very minimum Apple should let us downgrade to 3.0 now.

I've noticed poor battery life on my brand new 3GS also after the update.
It appears that there is some background process running which is eating up everything and causing the lockups too.

Again in my case the 3.1 update was applied within a few hours of getting a brand new iphone direct from AT&T. I had nothing setup on the device. Everything was default.

Exactly the Same here. Locks up randomly. If I wait long enough it sometimes comes back, otherwise a reset (home and standby button).

Absolute pain when you can't take a call as it comes in.

Last night, it did it 3 times within a 30 minute period. Very frustrating. I did turn of Wi-Fi, and it has yet to do it today. So we'll see. Either way, I hope Apple resolves this very soon...it's extremely frustrating.

I have also disabled WIFI even though I wasn't using it, and as of 7am today, I've yet to have a lockup (knock on wood).

Mine also experiences this issue, apparently crashing while in sleep mode every few hours after updating to 3.1. I'm not going to restore it yet though. Has anybody been calling AppleCare on this? We should probably get some escalations up to engineering to have them investigate.
