3.1 -- Unresponsive iPhone?

I did the 3.1 update around noon today, and since then I've had my phone become unresponsive 4-5 times.

Basically, it will sleep (or I'll lock it), and then that's it, it won't respond to any input or display anything. Home and sleep buttons don't work, silence, etc.. The only thing that works is to hold down home and sleep for 10 seconds and hard reboot it. Also odd is that it still seems to be doing... something. I can call the phone and it behaves as if it's ringing, not as if it's turned off.

Anyone else seen this or have any ideas on how to fix it? Just now did the restore from backup, so hopefully that takes care of it....

I figured that I would chime in as well. The more complaints the better. My phone (3G) has also had intermittent response problems since updating to 3.1.

The same exact thing is happening to me with an iPhone 3G and OS 3.1!

Randomly, several times a day, my iPhone will be totally unresponsive when I try to wake it from sleep. The only thing that works is resetting it by holding down the home button and the sleep/wake button at the same time. Syncing with iTunes did not fix the issue.

It's really annoying! I don't know if turning off WiFi works or not, but that's not a palatable option to me.

Please fix this, Apple!

My iPhone is also acting up. Have to hard reset at least 5 times a day since upgrading to 3.1. Also very poor battery life.

Also, my ipod tunes are all messed up. e.g. it has a video in my Top 25 played that I watched once ever!

Yeah mine too, though reading though here and people mentioning wireless made me think, all the time mines locked up has been just after I got home and 'connected it to the wireless'

Using apple time capsule.

Same here on the 3G 16GB. Started very soon after "upgrading" to 3.1. Phone become completely unresponsive. This has happened at least four times per day. One time when the phone was ringing, it would not allow me to answer and it continued to ring a good 30 seconds after it would have normally gone to voicemail. A few moments ago it was just sitting on my desk, vibrated once, then went to the passcode screen. It would not accept any input. The spinning shut down graphic then appeared behind the passcode screen and it restarted itself.

Mine too, shut off this morning before my alarm should go off, had a half hour extra sleep which was welcome, but ended up being late for an appointment. Shut down a further 5 times today, needed hardware reset every time.

Must be something to do with power as it must think the battery's dead. Anyway hope for a fix soon.

Been talking about this on the macrumors.com forums: (link http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=783122)

Seems that disabling push notifications is what the problem might be. The MR guys are all 3G not 3GS users. I have disabled push notifications for apps (not MobileMe etc) and have not had a lock up in almost 20 hours now.

Anyone wanna give this a try and post results here? Seems to be working!

that ridiculous. They give us an update that pretty much sends us back to having 2.0, but it's way more sluggish. How about fixing the problem, and having all the functions of the phone work properly. Crazy. I know.

Sorry to disappoint you but i've never had my notifications turned on and in the last 24 hours my phone went into a coma at least 5 times.

Same problem here. It's a 3G, push notifications off..... oh it's just gone again. 3 times today then, great!

Has anyone else also noticed the battery life seems very short.

Push notifications are not the culprit. I have a brand new 3GS (2 days old); it does not even have a notifications menu under settings. I upgraded to 3.1 within hours of getting the phone and the problems started. The phone is as factory clean as you can get; nothing has been setup on it, no music, no data, no MobileMe, no contact list, ...
