Apple Application Support is required to run iTunes.

On first execution after a clean install of iTunes 9, this error message:

*Apple Application Support was not found.*

*Apple Application Support is required to run iTunes. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again.*

*Error 2*

Can't run iTunes. Already reboot, reinstall, blah blah blah. Windows Vista 32.

Recommendations?

This method worked for me. Thank you for posting! Tried the WinRAR method and somehow downloaded a bunch of spywear! Then I had to go through the hassle of removing the spyware. Your solution of dowloading the old version of itunes was much easier anyway. I have another computer I can't open itunes on, so once I remove itunes and all related programs and reinstall intunes, if I get the Apple Application Support error, I will use your solution without wasting hours of time.

WinRAR is not really free. You get it free if you buy some other product that they are associated with.

This is not how to deal with the problem. I had the same problem and I went directly to Apple support. They solved me problem. It was pretty simple when I had the help of Apple support. All the advice you see on this forum isn't always correct.

BTW: the "VC80.crt" problem is caused because a specific version of the Visual C++ 2005 CRT dlls is missing, namely 8.0.50727.6195.

I actually found this thread when I encountered the problem on Windows 10. Fortunately I have a solution as well 🙂.

Version 8.0.50727.6195 is not included in "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x64)" or in the SP1 version,

but in "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package MFC Security Update":

Install that & iTunes should work.

Hope that helps

With iTunes closed try the following:

  1. Open Control Panel > Device Manager
  2. Plug in your device
  3. Locate Universal Serial Bus Controllers > Apple Mobile Device USB Driver
  4. Right-click and select Update Driver Software...
  5. Click Browse my computer for driver software
  6. Browse to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers or
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
  7. Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
  8. Click Apple Mobile Device USB Driver
  9. Click Next, then Close and exit Device Manager
