Anyone with 3.0 wifi issues try 3.1 with success yet?
I was one of the many iPod touch 2G users (based on posts to this forum) who had problems with wifi after upgrading from 2.2.1 to 3.0 a couple of months back. After trying almost every suggested solution posted on this forum (The only suggestion I didn't try was to go out and buy a brand new Apple wireless router), talking to Apple phone support, and a trip to the Genius bar, all without success, I ended up downgrading back to 2.2.1 and my wifi problems immediately went away.
Anyway, I was wondering if there's anyone who had wifi issues with 3.0, and has since taken the plunge to 3.1 and seen the problems go away, or at least seen significant improvement. I'm hesitant to once again upgrade, only to have my wifi broken again.
Comcast is coming by to upgrade my router and cable modem tomorrow. At least till then my iPod Touch is a paper weight. While those guy are at my place I'll make them try to get it working. Wish me luck.
So where are version of 2.2.1 available? I went to the Apple Store, and they say that they don't have copies of it anymore since it's not supported by Apple
Thanks, luvlabs. All good suggestions, but like I said, I've tried them all. My router is the Verizon FIOS Actiontec router, less than a year old. I upgraded to their latest firmware from this June. I'm running a simple straightforward network, and I've tried everything from no security at all to WPA2-PSK.
Replacing this router outright isn't really an option for me, because the FIOS online DVR capability and Home Media Manager require the Verizon router to be used in order to communicate with the TV set-top boxes over RG6 cable, and I don't want to give up that capability.
I could always add a second wireless router into the mix, and disable the wireless on the Actiontec (or run two channels), but then I ask myself why should I spend more money and jump through all those hoops?
If the companies that make all my other wireless devices have figured out how to make their products work with my wireless setup, then I figure the smart guys at Apple can as well, so I'll keep waiting and hope they figure it out.
Ok, so that my information will be as useful as possible here is a chronological description of my journey.
I upgraded my iPod Touch from 2.2.1 to 3.0 and lost my wifi capabilities. I was able to make a connection but when trying to run any app related to wifi such as browsing the web the thing just spun its wheels forever. I reverted back to 2.2.1 and everything was fine again. When 3.1 came out I thought I'd give that a try with the same results. On Luvlabs recomendation I looked into upgrading my router and/or firmware. Since my router was a rental from Comcast I decided to call them instead of messing around with their equipment. The router was a cable modem/router combo wcg200-cc. Comcast denied that the problem could be with my router but offered to replace it anyway, making up what I thought was a lame story about my equipment not being up to date for my area. They came by and replace the combo with a separate cable modem and Netgear Router WGR614. This solved the problem. I'm able to connect via wifi with 3.1 running. I does seem faster than with 2.2.1 but maybe I'm just being optimistic.
Just updated to 3.1 yesterday and for now everything is fine.
No problem using Wi-Fi, when I updated my iPod to 3.0 I had to downgrade to 2.1.1 to get it working again.
No problem with audio quality as well.
I have a Dlink DIR-625, with their latest firmware update, and I'm also experiencing issues since I moved the iTouch up to version 3.0.1. The range of my wifi doesn't go out of the room anymore, and it used to work all over the house, without any problem. Is this an Apple issue??? I paid $10 for this "upgrade"!
3.1 has ruined my IPOD. 3.0 slowed it down and caused it to glitch. I thought 3.1 would fix it. I had problems with it not allowing a back up. Then I went to my favorite WEB sites to watch video and now Safari will not play MPEG-4. It just shows me the page code and Safari shuts down. I did a restore...Which I had to do twice because again it would not back up or restores from a back up. I still have no MPEG-4 capabilities. I have 3.1 and Itunes 9.0. Please fix these issues. I agree without WiFi or Video it's a paper weight.
i'm having the same problem. websites with iphone/ipod video that i used to be able to watch through safari - now no longer work. when you click on the videos now, all you see is a bunch of streaming code - and no video. yikes. need a fix on this one!
