No Content in iPod part of iPhone after syncing with OS 3.1 and iTunes 9
My iPhone was working fine and I upgraded to iTunes 9 and OS 3.1 and then all of the sudden no Content in iPod part of iPhone after syncing. It shows the music there as far as the capacity is concerned but nothing shows up on the phone. I turned off Sync Music and my podcasts and movies then appear on my iPhone but when I try to Sync Music again it blanks. I then tried only select playlists which seemed to work except when I went to add the largest playlist then No Content error again on my iPhone.
I have the same problem on my 3GS. I was manually managing my music, but when I go into the iPod app, it says "updating library" for a minute and then says "No Content".

I'm having exactly the same issue. I manually manage my content, but now when I go into iTunes all my music under both Artists and Songs is missing however its all still on the iphone because I can play it via playlists.
This is on an iPhone 3Gs upgraded via iTunes 9 on Vista.
I also have this exact problem. Installed iTunes 9 last night & iPhone update, Synced and all my music has disappeared, although it is in the phone with regards to the capacity. I have been manually managing my music through a playlist, Genius is turned on, I also selected the new option of filling empty space with other music. I haven't tried re-syncing yet but will retry tonight.
I synched again and my music showed up again. Ran a sync when I got home tonight and it disappeared off my iPhone again. I do not have it set to manually manage like others on here. The bulk of my music is synced using one playlist though I have a few others. I have tried syncing several times and no change. I take off the main playlist with the bulk of my music and sync again and viola the other iPod content shows up again like podcasts, movies and a few smaller playlist.
Help!
I had my contents playing from the application iPod in my newly "clean" updated iPhone 3G, then I downloaded 3 podcasts from the iTunes Store in my iphone over wifi and the next time I launched "iPod" the screen read "Updating library" and then only the 3 new podcasts were shown no other contents is available, and the information menu from the settings reads 0 songs but the available disk space is relevant with the songs still being on the iPhone.
In addition, I have to say that iPod, especially the podcasts section, felt more sluggish than on the previous version.
I had no problems until I selected "automatically fill space with music".
The next time I connected, it synced like normal, but opening the iPod app, its said "Updating Library, please wait" then "No Content".
Its working for me now, after a few unplug, replug, resync cycles.

I think it has something to do with the Iphone Configuration Utility that comes with Itunes 9.0
I was having the same issue until i opend "IPCU" up and added my Name and email to the details screen. Once i disconnected Iphone again my music had appeared back in the ipod section.
Try this and hope it works.
I just tried the configuration utility and it didn't fix anything. I also tried a full system restore on my iPhone, then re-synced. It worked, but then I plugged it back into my PC, then removed it. After that it went back to the 'no content' error screen.
Pretty shocking Apple could release iTunes 9/OS 3.1 which such a massive bug.
I have this stupid problem as well. Never had this issue until now, and it's happened twice in two days after a full restore and a reset of my settings. Originally I couldn't access any content (podcasts or genius mixes) but I managed to get my podcasts back after choosing to un-sync all my genius mixes. So it must be a problem with music synchronisation. I resynced my music and all is well, but who knows for how long.
Very shoddy experience Apple, hope it gets fixed mighty soon.
This has been happening to me, too, after upgrading to iTunes 9 and OS 3.1. It seems like I get the "No Content" error every time I sync, and then I have to change something (add/remove music, etc.) and sync again in order to get my music to show up.
It's extremely frustrating and I hope we see a fix for this soon.
I should emphasize that in my case, all I need to do is change one thing (add or remove a single song, for instance) and re-sync in order to get the music to appear again. That may be worth trying for anyone else experiencing this error. It's frustrating, but until we get a real solution to this problem it's a better temporary fix than going through a full restore.
I originally did my iTunes upgrade by having iTunes upgrade itself. I downloaded the new version seperately and ran a repair and synced with no issues this weekend. I went to sync on my way out the door this morning for work and whamo No Content again. I unchecked syncing the bulk of my music and ran a sync again and got content back for my podcasts again. This is so unpredictable. I hope it is fixed soon.
Mark me down for the same issue. Happened twice now. "Updating Library" then "No content", connected my phone to my Vista (64 bit) iTunes, said everything was there. did a very fast sync and all was back on the phone. Then I used it for a day, plugged it in again this morning, same issue when I started up iPod on the phone. iPhone 3G, Vista 64bit, Itunes 64bit , iPhone 3.1, Genius turned on.
