No such problem here.

Try restoring your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup.

If no change after that, try restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup. If there is a problem with your iPhone's backup, restoring your iPhone from your iPhone's backup will also restore the problem.

iPhone Syncing can be slow with OS 3.1 and iTunes 9. To speed up iPhone syncing, download photos from your phone to your computer, then delete all photos in the Camera Roll on the iPhone. It makes a big difference. Here’s how:

1. Ensure the iPhone is connected to your computer.

2. Open iPhoto.

3. Select the iPhone in the Devices list in the left column.
4. Select all your photos in the camera roll.

5. Make sure to uncheck ‘Hide photos already imported’. This is important so you will be able to delete all photos in the Camera Roll on your iPhone after the sync.
6. Click Import All.
7. Make sure all your photos imported properly (check the # of photos in the dialogue box that appears)
8. Click the Delete Photos button at the end of the import.
9. Make any new albums you want, delete any photos you might have previously imported.
10. Quit iPhoto
11. In iTunes, select your iPhone under Devices in the left column
12 Click on the Photos tab. Select any new events or albums you created or want to sync back to your iPhone
13. Click on the Sync/Apply button
14. Watch in wonder how much quicker your backup of the iPhone proceeds

I can't believe how much quicker my sync is after downloading 212 photos from my camera roll. My backup used to take forever. Now things are much quicker. Can't believe such a simple thing made such as difference.

There is no question that push/notification is doing this, but wasn't it working in 3.0?

I also have noted a huge amount of "usage" being claimed by the system even knowing I have not used the phone all day. Now I think I'm going to have to resort to turning off push and/or notifications to get through a long workday away from a charger, boo!

I've hard rest, restored and drained the battery to 0% and then a full recharge and the power is "running out this phone" still!

Mine is also the same. Have tried all the various restarts, wipes and restores etc etc. but nothing fixes it. Even with a completely blank iPhone with no apps on.

The biggest problem for me (apart from the annoyingly slow response) is that I cannot answer calls. Sometimes it will ring but the UI does not respond so I can't answer the call. Other times, the phone doesn't seem to have time to talk to the network and the call just goes to voice mail.

Interestingly, after a bit of sluggish usage, the phone will recover and work as it should - until it goes back into its standby state.

I also experienced the reported slider unresponsiveness problem, wake up problems and overall sluggishness. Got the problem solved by deleting two apps which indicate the batterie level: Batterie and iBatterie Level Free. I simply assumed that apps which "query" basic system functions might cause abnormal OS behavior. After deleting, restart and the iPhone was normal again, no more problems. Maybe that helps someone.

RESTORE AS NEW PHONE WAS THE ONLY 100% FIX FOR ME....

tried it all, reset, restore to backup, wifi off, no programs or media, notifications off...nothing worked as any issues (slider delay, slow programs, etc) all returned.

yesterday reset and deleted all data and reactive as a new phone (changed name) and all is well. easy process for me with mobileme and all you programs will be there but of course you use program data and have to put passwords back into 3rd party programs.

if you cannot wait for a fix, this is your only sure thing IMHO.

EDIT: I should add that it still burns the battery at a faster rate...I think the 20% quoted by apple sounds about right...

Same problems here. My iPhone is useless since I am not able to answer calls (sometimes the phone is even not ringing), the slider is blocked, the GUI does not respond to anything. The home button does not reply or replies with delay only.

Turning off and on helps only for minutes or one, two hours.

I do NOT want to restore my phone as a new one! It's Apple's responsibility to fix the problem quickly, not the user's.

I also experienced the 'bricky' issue with my 3G 16GB after upgrading to 3.1. I also tried restore using a backup and it didn't do any good. Like other posters said, the solution (to me at least) is to RESTORE AS A NEW PHONE. It's a pain as after synching all the apps back I had to re-enter all the settings etc. But so far I believe this is the only working solution.

BTW, I was going to hang on for a while for an OS patch or update from Apple. But the 'bricky' experience turned into a few more than annoying episodes. For instance, because of the lag, I wasn't able to answer an incoming voice call even though my phone was ringing and ringing. I'm not trying to get into any semantic fight. But not able to function as a basic phone certainly puts my phone as a 'brick' classification.

Anyway, I am keeping my fingers crossed. I'm glad the 'RESTORE AS A NEW PHONE' is a working solution for me - so far.

Yes but I should add for those of us who have done the reset w/o the restore and got the improved performance we also got our battery life back minus 10-20% which was the claim by apple for push technology.

I was getting 8-10 of standby after the bad 3.1 upgrade but now i'm back up to 36-40 hrs of standby.

if you cannot get through your day you need to bite the bullet until a fix comes out. this workaround does work for the 3 phones at my business.

Hi - My first post here.

I've noticed all the symptoms everyone else here has explained... my phone turned into a piece of sh1t after upgrading to 3.1 - After reading the thread, I thought about what one user said about the push notification... So I turned it off. It seems to have cleared up all the slowness issues.

I also did a hard reset prior to turning push off and noticed a slight... and I mean slight improvement but slowness came back right away.

I too had my phone heat up and act very, very slow when doing anything(pressing home button, switching app pages, phone calls, emails, text messages - evertyhing)..

So it's been 1/2 a day since I turned Push off.. hopefully it will remain stable until Apple comes out with a fix to the fix. (cough-********). Maybe later today I will turn push back on to see if the problems come back.

gl to everyone...

Restore as a new phone seems like a good Plan.
I also have mobileme and a recent backup. Where do I do the restore as new phone and where do I rename the phone?
Is it done on the phone side under Reset/Erase All Content and Settings?

What do I loose? Just passwords in apps? Preferences in the phone? Appreciate your help.
