HP ScanJet scanners: ETA for new drivers?

In another thread, Andrew the HP Mac Architect said:

"Scanjet drivers are not included in the (Snow Leopard) OS (10.6). We are working hard on them and I hope to have an ETA sometime next week. At this point (other then reverting to 10.5) you are limited to third party options like VueScan. ($39)

Before I purchase VueScan, I thought I'd check-in: *When should we expect those ScanJet drivers?* Also, if anyone knows of a free option, I'd appreciate knowing about it.

And like everyone else, I appreciate that Andrew's "just trying to help," but I'd like to express my disappointment in Apple & HP for rendering my HP devices useless.

In fact, it'd be nice if future Apple OS upgrades included a pre-purchase preflight where the computer (or sexy Apple website) scans your devices (and AirPort configuration) for compatibility before you run out and install the new OS. I'm not a techie -- I wish I had known to check this forum prior to installing Apple Vista on my Mac.

Just checked HP's Website this morning.
It looks like they have updated to indicate that some drivers are available now,and the rest are available Spring '10
Oddly enough, when I just went back to grab the URL with the update timing chart, that page had changed!
It now just says that drivers are not available for the G4010 and OS 10.6.
The availability time chart was gone.

After reading the post from ronbo58 I went to the web site to see for myself. The Mac OS X 10.6 links are gone from the Download drivers and software page.

I still had the page in my History so I was able to see they updated the table.

Here's the link to the page in case you want to see for yourself.

And in true HP style the ScanJet 2400, which they list as having drivers now, does not have them available on the Download drivers and software page.

Come on HP, get it together. Six months to supply the community with drivers is a bit much.

Thanks for passing this along.

1) HP can't stick to the original unacceptable date it promised (all of these drivers were originally scheduled to be available by December).

2) According to this new schedule, it will take nearly one year for HP to update these drivers for 10.6. WHAT A LOAD OF CACA. I will definitely look for hardware that provides better Mac support in the future.

I just heard today the drivers for the G4050/G4010 were available so I downloaded and installed it for my G4010.

I haven't tested it yet but during the install I took note that the following ScanJet models are also included in this driver package:

2400 and G2410
3800 and G2710
G3010 and 4370
G3110
G4010 and G4050
N6310

You can download it directly from the Download drivers and software page for Mac OS X. The Download is under the Software heading.

At long last HP has released the driver for some of us, but in the process how badly have they tarnished their brand? I for one will think again before buying an HP peripheral.
