trouble making calls after 3.1 update

Anyone else having trouble making phone calls after the 3.1 update? I keep trying to make a call and it says calling but nothing happens. The only way I can get a call to go through is to turn off phone and restart it. But even turning the phone off has become weird as half way through the shut down process it starts flashing the main screen with the clock and my background pic (not the home screen). Also after charging my battery it shows only half charged until I restart the phone. Once restarted everything seems to work fine... for awhile, then I'm back to the same issue.

I downloaded and installed the 3.1.2 version patch last night. It did say that this patch would fix the issues that most of us have been experiencing but we will see. I have however not had any problems thus far after the install but from reading some previous posts, this may not mean much. I guess we will all have to wait a week or so and only then see if none of us are having problems anymore!!

Good luck y'all!!!

3.1.2 doesn't solve the problem. I reproduced it this morning 7 times in a row.
Looks like Chiburb2 hit the mark in an earlier post! I could reliably reproduce the "searching..." issue on 3G. I'm in Canada on Rogers. Just called Rogers this morning. Worked my way to 2nd level support and spoke with technician. Asked him to remove my phone from the network completely and recreate the profile.

Just tested it out 5 separate times and the problem has not recurred.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed but it seems that may be the solution.

OK.
Proper terminology when calling Rogers. Not sure about AT&T.

Ask the technician to "resend the switch". It has nothing to do with the actual handset. It's a profile within the switching system of the carrier. Resending the switch deletes the available profile and recreates it from scratch. The handset must be turned off while they do it.

Hopefully this helps somebody else.

I'm also having this problem, I have a 3G with the 3.1 update. Its happened to me twice, as far as I can tell, and only at work where its like a Bermuda Triangle for cell service. I have had my phone for over a year with no problems except the occasional "push" to my email not working on a rare occasion. Clearly this is a software issue.

Will try the software update and reply back if it works for me.

I had multiple calls with Apple support over this trying various things, for those late to the party, you only have 3 options:

A)Wait for a fix which may or may not ever come, because Apple still doesn't acknowledge that the problem exists.
B)Turn off 3G
C)Get a new phone.

It's clear from my support calls that people at Apple don't really care. I talked to 5ish different people and they all told me that it's my own problem. When I told them about this thread, and the hundreds of replies, they simply told me "Well, there are 40 million iPhones out there so you are still the minority". Wow, what a great way to treat your customer. Luckilly I'm still under warranty so I'm just going to get a new phone and not update it.

seiriously! this is becoming a joke! ive got a nice new iphone 3GS but intermittently cant make or recieve calls, txts etc..... someone, ANYONE, with advice please do so! :o$

im now of the FIRM belif this is definitely a OS issue, there is a way of downgrading to version 3.0 (where none of these issues seemed to happen) but its both a little bit complicated and difficult (just google iphone downgrade 3.1 to 3.0)

ive HAD a nice new iphone from the O2 store and done my own reset, the problems just keep on going, with version 3.1.2...... because i need my phone for work and cant really afford to miss calls im now using a crappy little LG thing, well when i say crappy, at least it works unfortunately unlike my lovely iphone sitting in its BOX!

APPLE - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE realise there is some random MAJOR flaw with versions 3.1, 3.1.2 where some people CAN NOT MAKE OR RECIEVE CALLS, TEXTS ARE DELAYED by hours! and it still shows 5 bars of signal.

The major issue here is that the whole problem is totally intermittent some times it works, sometime it doesnt! but also when its NOT working you DONT KNOW ABOUT IT! also its not happening to everyone, which worries me that Apple arent taking this seriously enough and we could be waiting weeks or even months for an update! :o$
