How to Save to MP3 - Strange

I opened an MP3 file in Soundtrack Pro. Saved it as an Audio File Project, edited it and now want to save it back to MP3. Unfortunately, the Export item is greyed out in the menu.

I can choose Save As, and save as a .WAV etc. but why not to an MP3?

Running Soundtrack Pro 3.

Thanks

Save to a AIFF or WAV then open/import the audio into iTunes. Then go to iTunes menu-->Preferences-->General tab-->click on the Import Settings-->Import Using: pick Mp3 from the list....Go back to the iTunes menu-->Advance-->Create Mp3 Version.

When done your audio file will be save to the iTunes music folder. The default folder is in your music folder. To find the default folder open iTunes preferences again and under the Advance to you will find the path to the folder location.

I know this is a pain in the tush...but nowhere else in OSX/programs does converting an audio file to Mp3 exists. Quicktime doesn't ever support converting to Mp3, only iTunes.

I'm confused.

The documentation for Soundtrack Pro 3 says I can export as an MP3. Here is a copy of the manual:

To export a master mix as an MP3 file
Choose File > Export (or press Command-E).

The Export dialog appears.

If you want, choose an export preset from the Preset pop-up menu.

For more information, see “Using Export Presets.”

Choose Master Mix from the Exported Items pop-up menu.

Choose MP3 File from the File Type pop-up menu.

The bottom portion of the Export dialog displays the MP3 export options. Because Soundtrack Pro can tap the power of Compressor as a background process, these export options are identical to the corresponding options in the Compressor application.

Specify additional MP3 export options.

For more information, see “About MP3 Export Options.”

If you like, use the After Export pop-up menu to choose a post-export action.

For more information, see “Using Post-Export Actions.”

Enter a name for the exported file, then navigate to the location where you want to save the file.

Click Export.

I have opened this is the multi track view. It's in WAV and is edited and ready to export - but the export feature is greyed out.

Any ideas?

To be honest... making a mp3 in STP is slow (pain in the tush) even when sending the file to compressor. I sent a one minute audio file from STP to compressor, 4 minutes.

I took the same audio file and dropped it directly in to Compressor and it took 8 seconds to make.

Then I exported to a wav (or aiff) file from STP, less than 15 seconds, and then dropped that into Compressor directly to make the mp3, 8 seconds.

You best bet is to:
Export your audio file from STP to a wav or aiff file and then drop that into Compressor.
or
If you already have a wav or aiff audio file just drop that into Compressor.

STP is just way to slow when making a mp3............ Either making the mp3 in STP or sending from STP to compressor, way too slow!

Try making a mp3 in just Compressor. I like to know if that was faster than sending to Compressor from STP.
