Can I turn off 1-click in iTunes 9?

I assume the answer is no, so I've sent this to Apple...

Subject: Forced 1-click purchases in iTunes 9 will REDUCE sales

I have just logged out of my iTunes Store account on the Mac used by my wife and daughter--perhaps permanently. The reason is forced 1-click purchases. Other online retailers allow shopping cart purchases and you should, too.

Further, the "add to wish list" is non-intuitive and right next to the much larger "buy now with no refunds" button. Not acceptable.

I intend to post this on every Mac web site that I can find. Provide iTunes Feedback is a choice in the iTunes menu. I suggest that everyone use it.

Meanwhile, you've eliminated the option of dragging to a user-created playlist to create a wish list. Since my wife and daughter can't "add to wish list" without my login, that's a NO SALE. This will significantly reduce sales to my family. Foolish on your part.

---

Any other suggestions for safely creating a wish list within iTunes 9 are welcome.

I see this discussion is marked as Answered but can someone tell me how to disable the i-click buying? I don't see any real answer to the question. And I completely agree with many of the responders here that this change was very poor at best and somewhat disturbing about what this might mean for the future of iTunes.

I was a "victim" of an inadvertent purchase but as one responder here says, I was credited back my purchase. I did find it funny though that the Apple responder was obviously not aware of this change as they sent me a support page on finding the shopping cart - which obviously doesn't work in 9.0.

Got an email from TomTom, 10 Euro discount on a purchase. On the TomTom website I pressed the "buy now" button. In iTunes I was expecting a "cart" where I could add my voucher.

No such luck, after pressing the buy now I immediately bought TomTom.

The very same thing happened to me!

Did you manage to get the order cancelled and to get a refund?

Thanks.

I'm the original poster and I marked this thread ANSWERED. This is not because I have found a way to turn off 1-click in iTunes 9.

I marked it ANSWERED because I am satisfied that I can avoid accidental purchases and also keep my daughter from purchasing without my password. Read on if you need to know how/why...

1. iTunes requires authentication (your password) to make a purchase (and sometimes for other reasons.)
2. When you login, make sure that "Remember password for purchasing" is not checked.
3. If you leave it unchecked then you are logged in for that session only. As soon as you quit iTunes, you are logged out.
4. You can add to the Wish List without logging in. This assumes that steps 2 & 3 have been done at least once.
5. Accidental purchases are prevented by the forced login. I just have to be careful to login only when I am purchasing and to quit iTunes when I am done.
6. My daughter doesn't know my password. She can add to the wish list and I then control all purchases.

I see the checkbox directly under the password box. I only see it (I think) when I click on a buy link.

For example, I don't see it if I click on my email address (Apple ID) in the upper-right corner of the iTunes Store. Clicking there is one way to see your account info and prompts for password.

EDIT: I see where there could be some confusion caused by my previous post. When I say "login" I'm talking about authentication for the purpose of making a purchase. I'm not talking about Sign In / Sign Out (found in the Store menu.)

Hopefully, everyone who has an issue with the 1-click snafu submits feedback to the URL indicated in this forum; Apple is more likely to respond if they get enough gripes. FWIW, here's my horrible experience(s) that I forwarded to Apple:
In the process of following emailed directions from your support department to update my iTunes library (there's no clear path to get your library back if the Backup HD is unavailable) I upgraded my iTunes software, but didn't read the find print that said somewhere that 1Click purchasing would be activated, and so apparently I inadvertently purchased at least one application, and I only know because i got the one receipt (so far). I think what happened was I made an intentional purchase that was authenticated, then continued my session and forgot that I had already authenticated. I know I probably can't get a refund, but add me to the list of disgruntled customers I found in your discussion groups and all over the web as well. I think we all should ALL get refunds; at the very least, when a customer attempts to make their first purchase after upgrading to the 'new' 1 click purchasing, a little window noting that the purchases would from now on be immediate and binding would have been helpful. I think I should have received a warning to re-authenticate before the final sale was made. I have been using a Mac since probably longer than the lifetime of the person reading this email; I feel like I deserve better, Apple, after the thousands of dollars I have invested, purchasing a new machine every three years for the past 20+: Mac Classic/OS 6.0.7/8 MHz 68000/512 kB ROM/1.4 MB/floppy/2 MB of RAM/40 MB HD

I think you are missing the point of a shopping cart.
I would rather add all my items to the cart - review and remove or upgrade a song version (or in my case ADD more items that go along with the theme of what I am buying that day) BEFORE buying.
Then I can move onto other things rather than spend MORE time scanning through the store.
Like say, read emails or do work or other things.....

Quite frankly, the "wish-list" function will NOT let me buy songs at all.
Example - I had $29 worth of movies and music in the "wish-list".
It would not let me buy it (after 5 attempts and two attempts where I deleted all items and started over).

I went back in and only bought two songs one at a time. So.... Apple is actually loosing money this way in my book. Which is a shame.
Either work on the wish-list feature OR bring back the shopping cart.

Well, I am a victim as of tonight. I did NOT have the remember me for future purchases checked. I accidentally hit "Buy" when I went to click "back arrow" due to way the screen was scrolled. Was it my wireless mouse? Did I undershoot? Don't know, all I know is I did NOT want the 25.00 app that I was researching! I have emailed support for a refund, seeing as I stopped the download and deleted it from my downloads, and unchecked "check for downloads". And I provided feedback on the previous mentioned link. I hope they bring the cart back, or at least a "are you sure" pop up. I hope I am not out 26.00 (after tax) bucks!!! Normally I rave about Apple, but this one really upset me.

I fully agree as after spending lots of good money at the itunes store and on apples products and regularly buying music, movies and renting movies I accidentally clicked right of the album cover when in a list of 20 albums and bought something I wanted only to preview. I too have permanently logged out of my account and honestly am so mad at wasting $11.29 on something I didn't want it turned me off buying on the store for a long time. The sad thing is I would have probably spent the money while on the site but have come away with something I wanted and been satisfied.

Either the software should have to logon anytime the store opens and automatically log off after leaving, have the option of clicking a setting in the shopping card preferences where you can be prompt if you really want to buy this item or bring back the shopping cart or make the wish list button bigger than the buy button. Building software and interfaces that makes you profit on regular people's high probability to click somewhere they might not of intended is a low for apple. Shame.
