Can I turn off 1-click in iTunes 9?

I assume the answer is no, so I've sent this to Apple...

Subject: Forced 1-click purchases in iTunes 9 will REDUCE sales

I have just logged out of my iTunes Store account on the Mac used by my wife and daughter--perhaps permanently. The reason is forced 1-click purchases. Other online retailers allow shopping cart purchases and you should, too.

Further, the "add to wish list" is non-intuitive and right next to the much larger "buy now with no refunds" button. Not acceptable.

I intend to post this on every Mac web site that I can find. Provide iTunes Feedback is a choice in the iTunes menu. I suggest that everyone use it.

Meanwhile, you've eliminated the option of dragging to a user-created playlist to create a wish list. Since my wife and daughter can't "add to wish list" without my login, that's a NO SALE. This will significantly reduce sales to my family. Foolish on your part.

Any other suggestions for safely creating a wish list within iTunes 9 are welcome.

Don't get me wrong.

I certainly encourage folks to send feed back to Apple.

But I kind of like the ability to use the Wish List to mark items for future consideration while still retaining the ability to buy with one-click.

One other thing to note, if you don't let the iTunes Store remember your password, you'll be required to enter it for a shopping session.

After you enter it once, you can then proceed to shop with one-click. It's just the first purchase that requires the password. That would be enough from preventing anyone from making purchases who does not have knowledge of the account password.

You can't add to the wish list without logging in. The option is there but immediately prompts for login. Logical, since the wish list is tied to your account.

1-click is great. I just want an option to wish list without login. Or, a way to be logged in without fear of accidental purchase. Apple has removed both.

I sincerely hope that this was unintentional. I've never been on the "iTunes is all about marketing" bandwagon--until now.

Yes, of course you need to be logged in, but when you go to make the first purchase of your shopping session you need to re-authenticate with your password.

That re-authenticate is not required to add an item to a wish list.

What this effectively does, is to require anyone wanting to make a purchase to have knowledge of the account password.

TOTALLY agree that forcing 1-click purchasing is ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!!

thanks for the warning too! -- NOT!!! would have been nice to let us know before we lost our shopping cart with the upgrade. i lost $200 worth of saved content.

what next?!! are you going to reduce the already too short 30 sec samples down to 10 sec's or less?

this is NO upgrade. this is an OUTRAGE!!!

No, not for me. Posted on an earlier thread:

I had a similar problem too. Most of my items were transferred, but 92 items were missing, and according to iTunes themselves (I emailed about the problem), I have 360 items in my "shopping cart" (their words), while I only have 268 (now it's 269, somehow accidentally added something maybe? I haven't wanted to mess around with anything iTunes until I get my items back). I don't know why these items didn't transfer!

Has anyone else had a problem with the overall layout and organization for the wish list? I have it sorted by Date Added (which I think is the default, and even if you change it to something else it goes back to date added after going back to the store then viewing the list again), but my most recently added song is number 25 on the first page...Not one on the first page, not even the last on the last page (another thing- I don't want pages! I want to be able to view the entire contents of my wish list in one page! It is a bit nice to have the movies and TV shows in their own category, and the albums...I guess......But I miss the one page layout, I don't like having to sift through pages trying to find a song, especially if it's sorted by date added, and especially when the organization is off). Why is this organization not right?!

I'm really highly considering down-grading back my previous iTunes version...

And by the way, I don't mean to offend anyone or complain, but these are my opinions and I feel I can write them out here. I don't mean to come across as a whiny brat.....Sorry!

It's nothing new to Apple users to find software or hardware features gone with the wind when Apple decides we don't need them. However, in recent years they have become quite clumsy with these "upgrades." Not only is half my old shopping cart missing from my new wish list but on a computer that I have not upgraded to iTunes 9 (and probably won't) the shopping cart is also missing stuff and HAS stuff that I did not put in it.

Wouldn't it be great if Apple had some competition?
