No Wifi after iPhone 3.1 upgrade

Try re-starting the wifi router.

On the Router in its admin program try revoking the IP Lease issued to the iPhone on the Router, then reset the Network on the iPhone in settings/General/Reset/Reset Network Settings. Then in Settings/WiFi setup Network Connectivity and then go back to the router and set the iPhones IP address lease to never to expire. I have 2 x iPhone running 3.1 without any issues. I am at 3.1 with a 3G iPhone that has no problems with WiFi so I would be inclined to think that it might be your hardware that is assuming that the hardware in my iPhone is the same as yours and if that is not the case the problem could be either hardware or software.

My iPhone shows "No Wi-Fi" and "Bluetooth unavailable" in settings
I believe it has something to do with the software as the router works fine with other devices

add me to the list. Wifi works fine for my laptop, but iphone wont pick it up (but recognizes their is an IP address).

Combined with the random shutdown issue.......this is really ticking me off.

Having the same issues I had with 3.0.

Sometimes my home wifi will connect sometimes it won't. Resetting the modem and router do nothing. Laptops connect fine to wifi.

This is getting ridiculous.

You can add me to the list. As soon as I upgraded to 3.1 my iPhone won't even see any WiFi networks. A friend standing right next to me with his iTouch can see over three networks to choose from. I believe his iTouch is 3.1.1, which apparently isn't available for iPhone 3G yet. I can't update my apps over WiFi because the updates are over 10m. This is really annoying. Luckily I can use the phone network for the internet but it sure is slower that WiFi. I need this fixed. Any suggestions? Tried hard booting, turning WiFi off and on, tried specifying the network... all no luck

I'm having / Had the same issue.

Resetting network setting on the device did not work.

Using a static ip (w/gateway (router) and dns) or setting up an ip address reservation on the router for the iphone solved the problem.

With DHCP my phone gets a IP and subnet but the problem is it doesn't get the gateway and dns hence rendering wifi useless.

Can see no wifi after 3.1. Messing with router is not an option, since I can't see any.

I have a 1st Gen 4GB iphone. I have never had an issue with wifi before -> EVER! After the 3.1 upgrade, my iphone can't even see a wifi network. I have wifi at work, home, and church. No luck here. Apple, where ya at?

I am also experiencing this problem. My iPhone 3G was shipped with v2.2.1 which meant that I couldn't install any useful apps. The wireless worked and I was able to connect to my home router.

Connecting to iTunes, the v3.1 update was applied...but the phone stopped working. I just had the "emergency calls only" start up page and iTunes was telling me that the phone wasn't going to work.

I restored the phone, but it restored it to v3.1?!? While the phone worked, the Wi-fi and Bluetooth settings were greyed out, as shown here: http://elliottback.com/wp/iphone-no-wifi-problem/

The iPhone tech support for my carrier (Optus) told me that this is a known problem that can happen with this phone and that once it is greyed out, there is something wrong with the hardware and nothing can be done beyond returning the phone (- I assume the firmware is broken and you can downgrade to the older version.)

Looks like you can't even select OS v3.1 from the drop-down menu on this forum, so hopefully this is just a teething problem.

Very annoyed as this is only Day 2 with an iPhone. Totally not worth the hassle and will never get one again.

I am also having this issue.

Since the update my iphone wont see any wifi. I have reset everything nothing works. my wifes phone is fine she did not update to the latest version.

Here's another 3.1 'victim'.

I never had any issues whatsoever with 2.X and before on my 2007 2G.

The difference to many other posts I see is that mine does see wifi networks but it won't connect to any. "Unable to join network..."

I also tried everything on my dlink router to no avail. Anyway, I know for a fact that it's not the router as the phone won't even connect to an open network on a 2009 Apple airport router.

It's very clearly the 3.x firmware that at least users who are still under warranty should expect Apple to fix asap. They don't seem to test their updates properly. Apart from the Airport stuff they should at least test a range of the most common router models (linksys, dlink, netgear etc). If I worked like this in my job I could sign on for unemployment immediately.
