Can't dial out or receive calls intermittently with 3GS and 3.1
I tried to call my wife this morning and the call said dialing for like 30 seconds and then nothing happened. I tried to call my phone from my land line and it went straight to voicemail. I have a great 3G signal with all bars in a location the phone normally works. I reset the phone and it started working fine.
It did the same thing again tonight at my house when I tried to call my phone with my wife's phone. I never had this issue until I upgraded the FW. The phone looks like it is working fine, but the cell phone functionality is not responding.
I removed my facebook app just for the heck of it as it is always searching for updated facebook info and so far my iphone 3g running 3.1 has not locked up in 24 hours.... who knows.. but I am going to update the phone anyway to the new update 3.1.2. My text messages usually paused at the end of the progress bar and now after I removed the facebook app do not pause and the message zips out faster. Could this have been an app issue??? we may never know but so far my phone is behaving. You would think if 3.1 has this problem then all iphones would be plagued with the issue not just some.
The update 3.1.2 lists these fixes so lets hope it does the trick.
!. Resolves sporadic issue that may cause the iphone to not wake from sleep
Here is the big one!!
2. Resolves intermittent issue that may interrupt cellular network services until restart.
3.Fixes bug that could cause occasional crash during video streaming.
I am going to Vermont this weekend where my iphone will be struggling to get signal so it will be a good test for the new update.
During the update which took about 5 minutes the iphones software and firmware were updated then when that was done there was also a carrier update that took about three seconds.
So it looks like 3.1 may have been the culprit only time will tell.
Let's hope the Coma Zombie is dead once and for all.
The 3.1.2 update DID NOT fix the problems I've been having with my 1st gen iPhone since updating to 3.0.1. (dropped calls, undelivered text messages, etc.). Apple: FIX THIS.
So far I have not had a problem since the update but time will tell, I will check back after the weekend but I don't like what Luke H has posted that 3.1.2 did not fix his phone %$@&#%!!!!
I saw that he had a first gen and 3.0.1 but his problem is the same.
And now he is running 3.1.2 and still having issues, that is not a good sign. I hope folks will report back here if the update cured their iphones coma issues or if they are still having issues after the update. I'm going on six hours now and so far so good.
After turning off 3g and switching to the Edge band I can attest that I have had no issues for an entire week. It just ***** we pay for a broadband plan that takes advantage of the speed issues.
I'm now updating to see if it removes the "zombie" issue weve all been experiencing. Fingers crossed =)
I haven't had any problems in the past couple of days, however, iTunes is pushing an update to my phone as I type this (which totally throws everything out of whack). 3.1.2?? I'll be curious to see how things go over the next couple of weeks, along with my fellow iPhone users. I'm hopeful, yet skeptical. That's the way I roll... 🙂
I was going to give my phone the weekend to see if the problem was actually going to clear up, but after 2 dropped calls this morning I've decided to try and roll the firmware back to 3.0 and see if that helps. Apple, I appreciate your relatively speedy response with 3.1.2, but it's obviously not enough. Please fix this...
Was having the same problem as all of you even after updating my iphone to 3.1.2. Suddenly my phone just wouldn't make calls in 3G mode. It would work on the edge network but I didn't get the iphone so it could operate on old technology. Anyway, I plugged my phone into my computer, went into itunes and did a *"restore from backup"* That seemed to do the trick and it is working great once again.
Good: 3.1.2 cured the zombie mode.
Bad : Recurring problem with crazy battery drain to zero -WHILE ON THE CHARGER-.
After the updates - it's happened intermittently previously. I'd associated it with the alarm clock or calendar reminders (of all things). When I have these set, the battery usage goes to zero within an hour, or if on a charger within 8 hours.
Previously, Crapple had me restore the phone. I did, but unfortunately I imported somewhere on the order of 6 years worth of email contacts, about 75% of which I've only emailed once. Contacts are coming from MS Outlook 2003, no way to group or organize them and SYNC apparently only overlays FROM the computer.
I tried creating a new user profile, installing another itunes but this appears to want to erase all my phone contacts / email and replace them with what's on the new user account, which is nothing.
