Wanting to do multitrack playback in Logic Pro 8

Wanting to do multitrack playback in Logic Pro 8

I have googled this topic to death and hoping someone out there maybe able to point me in the right direction.
I am trying to playback my recordings as a multitrack playback. When I playback my recordings, Logic plays it out as a stereo 2 track.
Maybe I should explain why I am trying to do this.
I am the media director in a church. For training the sound volunteers, I am recording the worship services in Logic. If I can figure out how to get Logic to playback in multitrack, I can feed those tracks back into mono channels on my console and mix. (a.k.a. virtual sound check) I know protools does this and I was told Logic can do this as well.

You need an Audio Interface (e.g. Firewire) with more than 2 Outputs, at least 4 Outs I would say. Then you will be able to assign different tracks to different Outputs and connect those Outs to the Ins of your Console.

You need an interface with multiple outputs so that you can direct the outputs of particular tracks to a specific output on your interface (and consequently to different channels on your mixer).

If you have multiple outputs you can select the appropriate one from each track's channel strip on the left hand side (I/O buttons).

(Yeah, like sampleconstruct said one minute earlier!)

I should have included this. I am using a Presonus Firestudio Litepipe. 32x32. I have tried sending the tracks to individual buses and trying to route the buses back to the Firestudio but Logic send the Left and Right Master to channels 1 and 2 on the litepipe.

When I select I/O on the channel strip the only option I have is OUT 1-2. It will not allow me to click on OUT 1-2.

Well, if your interface is equipped with more than two outputs and you have the latest software drivers installed, the available options should appear there.

It sounds like your "Output Device" is "Built-in Output".

If you've installed the Presonus Firestudio Litepipe drivers, you need to select that in your Preferences->Audio for your "Output Device"

You may be right but the Presonus unit is 32 inputs and 32 outputs. I am new to Logic and doing the trial by fire method of learning. I appreciate everyone's response so far in wanting to help.

The drivers are installed. My guess is that this is different from selecting the Presonus unit as my core audio device. Right? I will try this out tomorrow and let you know what happens. Thanks!

Correct.
I have a Firewire 410 and my output selection is
Output 1-2
Output 3-4
Output 5-6
Output 7-8
Output 9-10

I am not seeing an output device selection on my preferences tab. Here is what I am seeing.
Preferences >Core Audio/DAE/Direct TDM
I have gone into all the tabs of Core Audio, DAE, Direct TDM
none of these have a selection for Audio Output.

Under Preferences I have the following selections:
Devices, General, Sample Editor, Surround, MP3, Reset,and Nodes
None of these have a selection for Audio Output

You need to set the output of your system to be the Lightpipe. Go to Applications->Utilities->AudioMIDI Setup, and verify that the default system output is the Lightpipe you are trying to use. Logic will follow suit with whatever you have selected there.

Checked it and the litepipe is the default system. Still no luck in getting the audio to come out as tracks. The channel strips are still showing OUT 1-2 and will not allow me to change them.

I am using Logic Pro 8 Academic. Could that be my problem?

That isn't the problem. I don't know what is- sorry I can't help any further. I might suggest you make sure you have the latest drivers, but that has already been suggested, and is me grasping here. Good luck though, L

Notice in the "Core Audio" tab there's a "Output Device:" selection.
If you're drivers are installed, you'll see "Built-In Output" as the default, but you'll be able to select your audio device there.
