Can't edit Media Kind in iTunes 9?

After updating to iTunes 9 I have found that I can't edit the "media kind" label on any of my tracks. This is particularly annoying as I use audiobooks a lot, and now I have to store them as music. In fact, it seems that I can't edit anything under Options at all, such as "skip when shuffling" etc. Any ideas? I have never had a problem with this before and any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

For clarity, on Mac:

1) Turn off iTunes Match under the "Store" menu in iTunes

2) Find the affected files in Finder and set everyone's permissions to read/write.

- The easiest way to do this is to select their enclosing folder, get info, set the permissions, and then click the "gear" icon to "apply to all enclosed".

- Note that the little "lock" icon at the bottom of the "get info" panel must be unlocked in order to apply to all enclosed.

Same issue with me. I change my music files to audiobooks using 'get info' option, and it wont change the file, but if I change it to podcast it does change it. I don't want my audiobooks sorted with my podcasts though... I have tried everything from deleting the files, converting the files and then re-adding them, updating the itunes software, changing them first to podcast and then attempting to change them to audiobooks, searched through all possible settings, it just isn't working... Big DISLIKE on this one Mac team.... 😐

Hi Everyone,

I Just want to share what worked for me, it might help.

My case: i purchased some meditation tracks from itunes store, but when i click get info (in iTunes), then options tab, the media kind is "music" and is disabled (cannot be changed). Now I don't want them to be mixed up with my music library, i want them to be in the audiobooks.

Solution: after download from the store is complete, right click on the track select "Create AAC Version", you notice that the track is duplicated, right click on the new track and select get info (in iTunes) and voila, the media kind is highlighted again, I Selected audio books and it went there.

Finally i deleted the original purchased (Kept in them in iCloud).

Thanks, KimberleyHansen!

I turned off iTunes Match and was able to change the Media Kind attribute of my recently imported audio-books. I then proceeded to switch iTunes Match back on.

I did not have to play with the permissions. Apparently iTunes Match wants to treat all your audio files as "Music" and does not support more granularity in the Media Kind attribute than that.

I would imagine this being either a bug or a feature not yet implemented (like limited smart-playlist support in iTunes Match). Therefore, I have sent feedback to Apple about it. I suggest all of you who are having similar problems do the same.

Thanks again for your help!

I figured out a work around to be able to EDIT the MDEIA KIND. If you open windows explorer and you high light the files you want to edit for media kind. once they are high lighted you right click and go to properties and they you click on details at the top. The click at the bottom on removed properties and personal information which will allow you to control it in media kind. Its because the file is controlled with atributes being RA which wont allow any control but once its removed which it makes a copy it switches the copy to A which is allowed to do whatever you want. I hope this makes sense if not just email me at elmodd@hotmail.com CHEERS
