In all of my apps, the Open and Save dialogs have become very slow to open and populate since installing Snow Leopard, when the machine is connected to a Windows server. Disconnecting from the server solves the problem; reconnecting causes it to reappear.
This only happens on some of my machines, and not others
Any thoughts on what this could be. The delay is significant (about 10 seconds in all).

I reported the bug using https://bugreport.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/RadarWeb.woa/wa/signIn which requires an Apple id and today was asked to provide further information by doing sudo spindump on the command line while it is happening. I will leave my machine on overnight and provide the requested input. I suggest the more people who report the bug the better.
No, I don't use Drobo. I don't use any external hard disks. The only things different compared to my home machines which have no problem is the fact that the machine is part of the Windows AD and that I have Parallels installed and running.
Also, it's something that appeared recently, so it can't be connected to a faulty machine someone mentioned.
For all the Drobo users with this problem I might have a solution. I have upgraded the Drobo Dashboard to v1.6.7 (from 1.6.1) two days ago. For now, after 2 days of uptime, it seems like the problem is gone. I hope it will stay this way.
Finder relaunch has no effect. Neither alone, nor in combination with other changes. Reebooting and booting in safe mode does not fix the problem either.
Thanks AvDe, I installed the Drobo Dashboard update and that seems to have fixed my problems. My MacPro has been up for just under a week where before I had to reboot every day. Open & Save dialogs open without any delay.

Though it could be similar....
Yes — except that none of the evidence presented thus far suggests that it is, and all of it (in particular the the post I was responding to) suggests that its not.
Unchecking the iDisc in the "Show these items in side bar" Finder Preferences appears to have solved this problem for me. Feels good to have my snappy Mac Pro back again.

Again: that solves
a problem, but not
this problem. The people here who have this problem tired all these things, and many others, but non have had an effect.
I was having to reboot my Mac Pro (8 core 2008 machine) every day to avoid the slowing down problem described in this thread. I do have a Drobo in my configuration and after the upgrade of the dashboard the problem has completely vanished and my machine is again up for days at a time.
Wondering why the OS has to know all contents of all storage to open a dialog. Say if I choose an external drive to look for my file, then I dont need the content of all other drives; in the meantime the OS can scan for the other drive-details.
