Open and Save Dialogs Slow to Open and Populate

In all of my apps, the Open and Save dialogs have become very slow to open and populate since installing Snow Leopard, when the machine is connected to a Windows server. Disconnecting from the server solves the problem; reconnecting causes it to reappear.

This only happens on some of my machines, and not others

Any thoughts on what this could be. The delay is significant (about 10 seconds in all).

Maybe this syndrome has multiple causes?

No: your problem is distinct from the one being discussed here. That file system operations can be slowed by foreign file systems and external connections is well known, and was ruled out by most of the people here before posting.

That is in fact the whole point: *even when all well-know common causes have been systematically eliminated*, some users are experiencing significant file system slowdowns in OS 10.6.

Well, I removed macFuse, and NTFS-3G, which I was using to access a external NTFS drive that I had used for backups in my windows and linux days.

Since I removed both those products, I have had normally fast open dialogs, and my machine has been up for 2 day 7 hrs now, and I'm in 32-bit kernel mode.

I'll let you know if/when the slow down again.
