"Cannot connect to itunes store" "Invalid argument"

Ever since upgrading my iPod to 3.1.1 and the new iTunes, I can connect to the iTunes store fine on my Windows PC, but cannot from the iPod. I can, however, get internet in general.

Has anyone come across this before?

i had this problem since christmas day, tried all of the things mentioned in other posts even a visit to apple shop where they had never heard of this problem and told me to check router settings, needle and haystack came to mind.
this morning tried the only thing left, done a total reset of router back to factory settings and than tried both ipod touches one at a time and it worked.
lesson learnt dont bother resetting ipods, just turn off wifi and reset router its a pain but it may work for you.
router used is a bt homehub mk2

You need to reset your network settings - tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

And to the rest of you struggling with this problem:

Always check your connection by tapping Settings > WiFi > and the blue > next to your network name. If you are getting a 169.x address, then your router has not properly issued your touch an IP address. Common causes of this problem are:

1. Your router needs to be rebooted (just unplug the power cord for 15 sec or so)
2. WEP encryption (switch to the more secure, easier to use WPA2-psk)
3. Your router firmware is really out of date. Check your router maker's website for updated firmware.

We found this at work for PC clients:

For clients who have upgraded their itunes to 9.0.3 and were not able to access the iTunes store as a result, here’s something you can try to fix:
I disabled Parental Control in preferences for iTunes Store and checked "Allow access to iTunes U and was able to view the store again.
In order to sign in, you need to go back to the preferences, parental control and uncheck the "itunes store" under the Disable section. Strange. But by doing so, you can sign in successfully and the itunes store remains working...

When I use the crappy wireless at my school, I get the "Invalid Argument" and even "Invalid Leading Character" message with the iTunes store, as well as a couple of my apps that use internet connections, although safari works sparsely. On the other hand, when I use my home's wireless, or log into starbucks' wireless, there are no issues at all with anything.

So the problem, if it doesn't lie with the setting, might be the fault of the connection you are using. Have you been trying on the same wireless connection every time? You might try a different Wifi, or see if another a similar device will have the problem on the same connection.

Hey, i had the same problem for a few days and couldnt figure out what it was, i follwed what i read in here regarding revieving the error message and the IP adress being 165..... I tried to renew lease and turn off my router, none of these worked but what did work was forgetting the network and entering it again it fixed it straight away and the IP address returned to the normal 192.168..... Hope this helps 🙂 x
