General consensus on 3.1 upgrade

I have a 2nd generation iPod Touch (32GB), and am considering upgrading to the latest version of the firmware. I have noticed a few people moaning here about problems they've had with it though, and thats got me a little concerned.

Whats the general consensus with this upgrade? Is it worthwhile installing it? Are there any gotchas I should be aware of?

are you sure it was a "brand new unit?" If it had the same manufacturer date as your old one then it still has the same hard coding problems that your old one did. Unless it is a device that came from the factory with 3.x - do not expect it to work right beyond 2.x Tons of posts here on that subject and Apple just plain does not listen. 3.1.1 has on my 2nd gen Touch has given me exactly the same amount of trouble as 3.0 which is to say none. Everything still works just as well as it did under 2.x and the new features work as well. I did turn off Shake to Shuffle when first upgrading to 3.0 as I found it too sensitive and very annoying but as best I can tell the feature works as advertised; I just don't like it.

Best of luck.

I got my 3.1.1 recently and it messed up my iPod 32 GB 2nd gen. When I go to my album list, and if there are multiple artists in the album, the album is listed that many times. So if I have 10 songs in an album with 10 artists, the album is repeated 10 times in the album list. What a mess. I don't listen to poscasts that much, so I cannot comment on that. I am just waiting for a new upgrade. I really wouldn't get 3.1.1 if I don't have to. Anybody else has this issue?

Thanks

Can you get sworn statements (under penalty of perjury) from all 6? I seriously doubt that 100% of the people you spoke with have had NO problems with the upgrade. Even new 34d gen units are having trouble, which I've already mentioned in the last few days. Not calling you a liar, but the fact is that the upgrade causes all sorts of problems. Do you read the news?? Mainstream reports of the upgrade are becoming more and more prevalent as each day goes by. Do some reading.

get some perspective.

Accept that some people (most people) haven't had issues.

I appreciate that if you've got problems it's a pain, and hopefully they'll be addresses with later updates, but don't have a go at people because they're not in the same boat as you.

Technology products and software updates never, ever go the same for all users. Some will have issues, others won't

Tell you what, sport, if you are so sure that 3.1.1 won't hose my touch how about putting your money where your mouth is. If I install 3.1.1 and it screws up my Touch, you pay me $200 for my time. If I am unable to recover ALL my apps and all my data in every app, then you pay me $500. If you are willing to do that, I'll give 3.1.1 a try. Otherwise I remain resolutely cautious and will avoid the update like the plague that it is. Ball's in your court...

*** are you talking about?

Nobody is forcing you to update your iPod. Do it if you want, you clearly don't want to (for, what I believe are flawed reasons) so don't.

I'm pointing out that MOST iPod touch owners do NOT have issues with 3.0 or 3.1.1. This is clearly true, because if all users had issues these support forums would grind to a halt - there are maybe a few hundred people logging issues on here, not the millions that own the iPod touch.

If there's any ball it's in your court. But if you don't want to play the game, don't!
