Need Canon Color image runner C2880i driver for snow leopard

I installed Snow Leopard in my MacBook and Mac Pro at work and i have installed them first to check out thebugs before before installing on anyother machines. To my horror.... i can't print. I have a Canon Color image runner C2880i and i can't seem to find drivers that work with Leopard....I have followed all directions and spent much time with apple support...downloaded Canon drivers and software again to be sure I had the latest and still no success. Does ANYONE have a link to get me to the drivers that i need to print off my machines. Please help. I need to start cooking for my new years dinner!

Hello Thoride and welcome to Apple Discussions.

For starters, to print when Dept ID is enabled on the copier, you need to use the full Canon drivers, not the PPD only printer queue. Since the PS driver is not working on 10.6, then you need to use the UFR2 v2.00 driver.

When Dept ID is enabled on the copier and you create a network printer queue with the UFR2 driver, the Dept ID setting, called Job Accounting and located under the Special Features tab, should enable by default. If it doesn't, then open the Special Features menu and look for the Job Accounting tab. If you do not see this button press the Printer Info button. This will force the Canon driver to communicate with the copier and determine what features are enabled. A new window will appear showing what is enabled on the copier, and if Dept ID is enabled, it will show in this view. When you close this window and return to the Special Features pane, you will know notice the Job Accounting button is present. Now you can set your ID and password and save as a Preset if you want to.

I have no idea how this posting of questions works, but I would like to ask PAHU a question:

We work for a non-profit social service organization located in Canada and have limited computer knowledge with respect to 'programming'. We have upgraded to Snow Leopard and are now unable to print anything on our Canon ImageRunner 2230 - it worked well pre-upgrade. We have contacted Canon (no help) a few weeks ago and have been checking the Canon site frequently. We are quite seriously screwed here having 1 machine used for printing to an HP with OSX 10.5.

Any suggestions or help would be tremendously appreciated.

Thanks!!

Hello johnguy and welcome to Apple Discussions.

The Canon Europe web site shows this model supports PostScript and UFRII printing languages, as well as PCL5e - which is normally used on Windows only. Looking through supported models list for the UFR2 v2.00 driver that works on 10.6, this model is not listed. So, you will have to try using PostScript or PCL5e. I would suggest you try PostScript first, because if this works then you can install the Canon PPDs so that you have more features when printing. If the PostScript doesn't work, then you can use PCL5e, which will get you printing but without any finishing features.

Before I give you the steps you need to take to get this machine printing from 10.6, can you reply back regarding how you connect to the printer. Is it via USB to the Mac or is the machine on your network.

Hello Pahu,
I've a similar issue with Canon IR 2620: we use department ID so i can't use PS, and I don't find UFRII driver for the 2620.
I tryed to install in several ways, both UFRII for similar printer model and PS + PPD 2.70 for the 2620 (both PS and non PS PPD name), and every time i get the "driver not installed properly" issue.
can you help?
thank you

Hello Lorenzo,

Basically you are stuck at the moment and need to make some decisions. The iRC2620 is not supported with the UFR2 v2.00 driver and the Canon PPDs do not support the Dept ID facility. Also, as you have seen, the Canon PS driver cannot be used on 10.6.

So, you either need to go back to 10.5 and wait until Canon releases a full driver that will work on 10.6 and support your model or modify the Dept ID setting in the 2620 to allow unknown IDs so that you can use the Canon PPDs. Note that if you change the Dept ID setting then all of your print jobs from 10.6 will not be accountable and this may not be allowed by your management.

Thank you for your help!
Here is my update.
Did as you suggested with IP address from copier, etc.
Saw Canon iR UFII entry with UK in parenthesis - (UK).
I used that and it worked - although two-sided was not a possibility, a necessity for what I print.
The next time I added a printer I did iR C2880/3380 option that I saw when I did the above.
That worked - two-sided was available - fantastic!
The only problem was that page two was printed upside down.
Is there any way to eliminate that?
Thank you again for your help!
Tremendous and wonderful - I can print!

Hello jdkist1. Good to read you got it working. I was starting to wonder how you got on as Sunday approached and I hadn't heard back from you.

Regarding the second side printing upside down, there is a Binding Location menu under the 2-sided printing menu (all located under the Finishing menu). You could experiment with this setting to see if it resolves your current symptom.

The version 3.2 you are referring to is the version of the MIndVision Software installer package for the UFR2 driver. Looking at the v2.00 UFR2 driver, and even the previous v1.80, the installer version for these were 3.3, so your UFR2 driver is probably v1.70 or earlier.

So, the version 2.00 mentioned throughout this posting is available from the US and Australia web site. If you scroll further up this post you will see the link via the Canon Australia web site.
