hi. and thanks again ralph.

but i still have problems.
the browser's access is 192.168.0.1 and i went there and turned off all login and password information.

then i tired in terminal to access 192.168.0.1, 10.0.0.138, and 192.168.0.1 and all timed out, or unable to connect or both. i've tried a few times with each and nothing worked.

any other work- arounds?

Hi,

Is it still saying it can not see the "Server" "Host" or what ever it is calling it ?

You do not get a Terminal Window that starts like the second purple box here http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/page4a.html#_text (Scroll down to see the second Purple Box)

Is there a setting in the Web Page set up pages that has to be set to Allow CLI logins ?

hi.

i've tried more and more to connect using terminal, and it seems that no matter what address i use terminal responds that the connection refused. and then it says unable to connect to remote host.

i do not get to the second purple box in your example because i cannot login.

as far as i can see, there is no place to set cli logins using the browser admin of the router. the online manual is listed earlier in this thread in case i missed it.

help still very much appreciated.

thanks.

Hi,

The manual an it's page 9 as the Numbers show (page 17 of the PDF) shows the IP as 192.168.1.254 and the User name if not changed as "Administrator" (they list a leading capital letter) with the password as blank.

With my Speedtouch 510v4 it was the same as the IP for the Web Page access.

On page 8 of the manual (page 16 of the PDF) it says your computer must be in the same Subnet if your LAN has subnets. (it will stop Internet Access for one)

I can see nothing that says it must be allowed first.
Nothing in Tools And User Management ?

Having said all of that Unbinding SIP in version 5 firmware and above can only produce minimal Improvements in who you can connect to.

Generally I would recommend a new modem.

ralph,

thanks again. you are truly a guru.

i've tried changing my login to Administrator and leaving the password blank. and tried the ip listed, but still get the same error. i'm prolly not in the same subnet or something and don't know how to change it.

and you say that this might not even work. very frustrating.

doesn't seem fair that i have to buy a new modem supplied from my cable co.

thanks one more time.

The device is unfit for the purpose that you wish to use it for.

DO the ISP offer any Non Thomson-Alcatel devices ?

Of course we could also be looking at Firmware specifically for the ISP.
Normally such Branded sales has a Visibly different Page view to the set up pages.
